Afternoon!

I'm currently working on finishing the paint job on a vampire army that I picked up fairly cheaply. I have repainted or been able to wing most of it, but I am hoping that I can have some help identifying the paints used on these models. First off I have a zombie

I'm looking to do the arm and hand, and there are touch ups to do on the zombies in general. Can anyone identify what paints were used here?

I also have 20 dire wolves I'm looking to do that look like this

I'm curious what colors were used to create the finish product that looks like this

I appreciate any help you guys can give on this as I'm stabbing in the dark here and I have a box full of bits to experiment on to replicate it once I know what colors to use.

Thanks!

The problem here is that the type of camera you used to take those photos, and the colour balance of the monitor being used to look at them is going render most answers inaccurate. You might get a load of replies saying 'looks like x washed with y', but there's no guarantee you'll be on the right track, and you could find yourself spending a fair bit of cash on a bunch of paints you won't ever use again when they prove not to be correct.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

Fair enough, is there a recommended way you might suggest in deducing the colors and paint style used for these guys?

Thanks!

It might be easier if you describe the colors you are going for. In all honesty, the zombie color you show, as bad as the light is, looks like a simple base coat color and a wash to give it some depth. If that is what you are going for, I'd try a color like (and this is a best guess approximation) Caledor Sky and a thin Nuln Oil Wash followed by a thin Darkenhoff Nightshade wash. Not exactly the colors I would chose, but a starting point nonetheless.

As to the Dire Wolf... it doesn't even look fully painted. Can you find some fully painted minis to base your color scheme off of? To me, it looks like they painted the flesh with the old GW Rotting Flesh and began to paint a few of the exposed muscle areas with a dark red. As rotting flesh is no longer available, you might try a mix of Ogryn Camo and Ushabti Bone as a base. Also some Screaming Skull for the bone areas. But you'll want to add a few more stages in there.

Again, do you have some more finished models to use as an example? I can give you some pointers on colors to use to achieve a color scheme, but as mentioned above, these photos aren't much to go off of. Good luck!

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. Grrr.
