I'm a Warhammer 40K player but Star Wars has always been fun for me as well. Rogue Squadron on the N64 likely got the most screentime of any game I had at the time and that shifted through to other dogfighting games but none of that is really applicable here now is it? Basically, me and a friend are looking to fill an afternoon from time to time with a 'simpler' game than 40K, and one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. But, I have only the smallest idea of where to get started.

Obviously the Core Set is a must have, but more than that I literally have no idea how to move forward. I don't know the points, I don't know the flight builds, I don't know why Biggs is better than Porkins considering Biggs was vaped and Porkins died from mechanical failure and not enemy fire. Also have no idea how to get Biggs or Porkins or if either are actually worth running.

Basically, I'm just looking to know the first things I need for a Day 1 buy. The Core as I said, but X-Wings are dull and TIE Fighters are ugly. I'm an Interceptor type of guy so the Imperial Aces expansion looks to be a must have. The 181st TIE/in in particular. But, I have no idea without getting my hands on it what that would come out to as far as points, or what the Rebel side would need to match it. Either fielding the 181st TIE/in with the two standards alongside it or all four ships. And since as I said I'm looking for a 'open package - play game' experience I would like to buy a contending Rebel force at the same time. I really have no preference for the Rebels but my friend has shown interest in the Z-95 Headhunter based on the looks.

I am sure once I get my hands on the Core set and read the rules and make sense of what people are saying on here I won't need to be spoon fed so much but I've never played the game and only seen a handful of games played where they may as well have been talking Greek for all the sense it made. If someone has places to point me towards to get a grasp of all this, that would also help.

Welcome aboard! Buy what you want, because they are ships you like.

Each expansion pack includes a ship or two, all the materials you need to play them including points and such and several upgrade cards. The upgrades are interchangable, and can be used by most other ships. In this way, even rebel ships can help your Imperial Squadron.

If you know you love TIE Interceptors then by all means, start there! They are maneuverable, fragile and fast. Play a few games, then decide where you want to go next. As a day one purchase that matches the Imperial Aces Expansion, why not go Rebel Aces? that will provide you with a B-Wing and A-Wing to go with your X-wing. with upgrades, that matches nicely to 2 Tie Ins and 2 Tie LNs.

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.

First, Welcome to the game!

Second, if you like interceptors, I would recommend 2 Imperial Aces sets, and the Interceptor pack (which is where you get Soontir Fel). This will give you plenty of the upgrades (Push the Limit, Shields, etc.) and all the pilots- The one thing you can't do is run an interceptor swarm, as the cheap pilots only come with the normal expansion.

Third, unless you really like A-wings, I would recommend avoiding Rebel Aces to start. It is very much an expansion pack set, and the B-wing in particular needs a lot of upgrades that the set doasn't come with (The set lacks Cannons and Torpedos, and has limited Crew and System Upgrades). While a must-have if you are serious about A-wings, if you want a more rounded rebel force it shouldn't be your first purchase.

Fourth, Welcome to the game and have fun!

Welcome to the game,. I am also a long time Warhammer player. who recently joined the Xwing arena. I have found it to be a lot of fun and a good change of pace game from
Warhammer.

There are some really good Videos on YouTube, on how to play Xwing, This where i went to learn the game, there are some that are not that good until you learn the game, but I found allot of the videos to be really helpful.
