WARNING: PIC HEAVY!

Hi Everyone,

This weekend I decided to take photos of my NEW and OLD Eldar armies. I posted some photos of my new army a few months ago, but I have added to it since then and taken photos without junk in the background. At that time my warlord purple bases created some mixed feelings. At least now I made a bunch of terrain to match! (I also have a full purple board made of small panels to place the terrain on, so all those normal bases are the ones which don't fit in ).

Hope you enjoy!

New Additions!

Nice! Did you use a mold for the sand bags? They look great- and the color choices work well together.

your new eldar army ( and also the "old") looks very very good.
i think you dont follow the standard trend and own an airbrush?
good to see some classic brush work here.
this is also one of my critique points.
visible brushstrokes especially on the larger black surfaces(fe on the wraithknight).
nice ideas in the colour scheme and well executed.
i love your wraithblades.
one thing i often have as a roblem myself is mold lines and gaps.
but realy? the big one in the center ruines the wraithknight number one, maybe fill it and repaint it, its only black.
one question that comes to my mind... such great poses, such great paintwork WHY in heaven WHY the pink? WHY.. maybe there is an overall idea but i have the feeling they are fighting in hello kitty candy paradise?

I like the colour scheme you have going there, and the Wraith Knight is a great center piece. That being said I think that the pink rim on the bases is distracting. With the Wraithguard the eye is drawn to the bright helmet and the bright base. Much of the model becomes background. Compared them to the jetbikes and you the model becomes the focus instead of the rim of the base.

Perhaps not, but since GW seems to subsist off sadness and pain, I can't rule it out.

Thanks for the reponses!

@loritheladybug7
The sandbag emplacement is actually an old piece of GW terrain and the only one that wasn't made by me (which is why it has so many details).

@winterwind85
I do own an airbrush and everything NEW was airbrushed except the guardians, dire avengers, farseers, wraithlords & warwalkers. So I did get lazy, but I managed to edge 70 models before quiting. The NEW army was a spawn of me wanting to paint a different colour, but since it was compiled over 1 year instead of 10 (like my old army), I needed a fast way to paint masses. But I still think the classic edging looks really sharp even if it isn't as smooth.
I am pretty bad with mold lines.. I get too excited to start painting that I don't fill them in or file them down until they are gone... :(
My wraithguard I painted SOOOO fast, but they have a striking look. Just have trouble trying to bring 40 to the table and make a competitive list.
A Candy Paradise sounds amazing! I am old school and still a fan of bright colours vs the new realistic/battle weathered style. I think the bases scream alien and add some colour to a dull black/grey scheme.

@Dreadclaw69
The yellow wraithknight is kind of unrelated to my new/old army, I just put it there because it was more recently painted. It is closer to my old army with the scale pattern but was more of a painting break to use other colours. The rim is pretty distracting, but it flows into the colour of my table. My flyers bases have black rims, but that was only because i didnt' want the "water" edge to be pink. Perhaps one day I may change the rims to black, but for now your eyes will have to suffer.

This is just so full of epic! Amazing stuff!

That first Wraithknight is a bit of a bolt-from-the-blue though, completely different from the rest of the army (including the other Wraithknight later). It's like *looks at first picture* "Nice, clean, simple colour scheme." *scroll* "Oooh, that's alot of Wraithguard, nice and consistent though." *Scroll scroll* "Argh! My poor unprepared eyes!"
I don't mean that in a bad way btw, it's beautiiful - it's just a bit of a system shock, I'm sure it gets lots of attention in public.

The only negative thing I'll point out is the larger gems, such as on the top of the Lynx and some of the second Wraithknight ones, could have done with a few more gradual tones - the technique really works on the sheer number of gems us Eldar players paint, but it's a bit obvious on the large gems.

Thanks

My fingers hurts from scrolling too. I figured why not throw it all in, instead of posting everything bit by bit. I moved the yellow wraithknight to the end as it is not related to my new army theme at all. I was going for a simple unique scheme that has some poping colours. Yes it is a lot of wraithguard... I should take a photo with them all together. But that is the case for most things in the photos.."what if I had THREE!!?!!?". I just would assembly line 10-20 at a time. Guardians were 40 at a time (the edging just wouldn't end!!!)

Ya I got lazy on the big gems. I will make an effort to go back and fix the massive ones and perhaps actually do some blending, because they do look like crap. But you at least have to give me credit for painting the majority of the gems.. (which isn't common in armies that are speed painted).

This army never sees the public because I never get a chance to play anymore. I hope to change that, but at least I can share my different take on eldar here.

Really cool work. I would love to see a group shot of these on the pink table with the scenery. I love bold colour choices on models and think a group shot would help contextualize the shocking bases and make a good photos.

Magnificent! I love the Eldar aesthetic and you've more than done it justice here. The pebble/bubble texture camo is mindblowing.
And the pink terrain/ bases, never seen the like before but it's way cool.

Lepton,

Thanks for the compliment. I must admit individually they are nothing special but the overall look you must really like!

Jimsolo,

Yup, they are from a wedding cake store. I recycled them off a tau battle scene I made a very long time ago. Perfect scale for 40k!

It's been a while since I have added pictures to this thread of my recent projects. Please refer back to the first post as I have modified it to include:

1) Wraithknight with sword and shield
2) Wraithknight with dual wraith cannon (my second one)
3) Crimson Hunter with fiber optic lighting (i was bored so wanted to try something different)

What do you guys think?

Um, your wraithknights are a some of the coolest ones ive seen yet, especially the scaly one, and the fibre optics sticking out the back of the hunter is genius, did you think of that?

PS such an awesome project deserves a group shot eventually.

@ scuzz_bucket:

Thanks, I tried to make them look different to the standard wraithknights I see online. Yes I did think of the fiber optic lighting myself. I actually have 2 more sets and am trying to decided if I should install them on my other 2 hunters. The original idea was not only to have cool lights, but to have a fun way to display if the crimson hunter had jinked in the previous turn.

One day the group shot will happen. I am dreading setting it all up as it would take many hours. I also only have an iphone5 so my camera is kinda junk.

@ Darth Bob:

I am old school and like flashy colours still. Thanks for commenting on my wraithknight poses. I always complain to people about how crappy the default pose that is shown on the box is. It make the model look soo static and ugly.

Fantastic work! If people near me had armies and terrain that looked like that I'd get back into 40k. I daresay the color scheme and overall vibe is very old school but the execution and technique is so clean. Absolutely great.

Did you paint the yellow trim over the black or did you start with neutral primer and do both?

Its very similiar to my scheme so im interested in the process.

Thanks everyone!

@ Argive:

Depends what you are referring to. In general I painted the yellow trim over the black. Took a couple coats though. The heads of the wraith guard though were painted separately. In the cases of the vehicles the grey was already airbrushed on.. so the yellow was on top of grey. Let me know which specific model you are talking about.

@ Tpiddy:

Thanks. I really love the look of the full squad(s) of wraithblades too.

@ Galef:

Out of the 4.. I like the blue one the most.

If that army was plopped down across from me I would spend too much time staring that the game would be like 8 hours long.

I love the leopard/scaly pattern on the second set of wraith knights and the yellow/grey colors pop.

Pink rims are kind of distracting. I'd do the rims black but leave base as is...doing that will make the pink pop even more.

Great army.
