Hey Dakka.
I was looking through some of the older threads, and one of them was about the most Grimdark thing in 40k.
Well, i bring you the stories of the Remembrancers.
http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Remembrancer
If you look at the notable persons section, then some of the stories turn really dark real fast, the artists seem very snobbish but smart, but just pawns compared to the superhuman primarchs which treat them almost like pets, ultimately resulting with their extermination.
I thought i could show you chaps this, as i would like to ask if anyone knows any more grim stories like these ( i know its 40k, but stories specifically with this feel), as the biographies of the Remembrancers seem very much based on renaissance artists (Romance and sex etc) and famous journalists (especially journalists which have died in war zones), as they feel more dark to me as they are essentially hopeless, as one of the artists is captured by Horus and acts as his personal artists, watching his friends be butchered by the Luna wolves, essentially driving him into a follower of Chaos out of fear, he is then captured by the Imperium and killed as a heretic, and all his great art is burned

The Remembrancers provided one of the better plot points of the Heresy series, despite my initial exasperation with them. They did an excellent job of providing a Human perspective within the otherwise super-human atmosphere of the Astartes fleets.
I thought the fate of the two artists in Fulgrim was the most ultimately tragic. The chick impaling herself on the sword that Fulgrim used to kill her dude was pretty... damn.

Yeah, it really fleshed out what its like to be a squishy human in-between two massive armies of superhuman psychos.
I found it incredibly bleak tbh, i mean the part in which they all went down to the planet and got tainted was pretty nuts.

There was one in one of the ADB novels that I liked. He was basically a con artist who lied his way into the job. I liked that guy.

Best part of the Remembrancers is that whenever a piece of art is atributed to them, it looks like a 13 year olds notebook sketch. Despite the claim that they are the greatest artists in the galaxy!

Probably because those are their notebook sketches and they never had time to actually paint the picture because of the various sticky ends they all come to.

I have not, but I expect he's working under much better conditions! His subject matter isn't true to life, and doesn't have better things to be doing than posing for some minion.
Rather than Kopinski, you should try comparing them to Muirhead Bone.

I don't know though, I just love how the garbage book art from the early days is labeled as the work of Remembrancers.

Remembrances are aswome, they sould had their own book
i think that all stories even the small ones (ex.that only survivor from an incident, the last poet i think, he was on Emperors children) are good.Space marines become boring too soon as they are "soulless"
