So Exrah are being squated like yesterdays... eh, Squat. Or are they? We don't really know for sure. Nevertheless we're ready to jump the gun and say farewell to them with some kind of unofficial painting contest, or vow, or something. Okay, so we haven't really thought it through. Suggestions on a postcard.
Whether you like the Exrah or not, when someone leaves the party then the polite thing to do is to say goodbye. So why don't we all grab a brush and give them a spirited Dakka send off? After all, they might, maybe not come back.
So raise your hand, and start waving it, if you want to help us say goodbye.
Casey, Alpharius and bantha_beast.
No jokes. We are 'reasonably serious'.

I can see this bombing like sales of Exrah miniatures. We could leave it a while then try and make a new thread with a different layout but I kept breaking my keyboard trying to post this one and replacing laptops is expensive. It might be an idea at this stage to just to lock the thread to remove it from public domain. I mean, obviously it'll annoy people but it's the best thing to do.

Could maybe try cross-posting on the official forums/ datasphere to drum up a bit more interest? But, yeah now the thread is open i think just post stuff up paint log style.
You probably missed the joke because it wasn't funny. -1 internets to me also.
So if we are gona do this the first question is: How seriously are we going to take it? Please pick one and vote if you want to get involved.
1. Competition style with prizes.
2. Casual pledge to paint something and post it.
3. Reasonably...
Okay so I'm hearing competition but on the casual end of the scale. Public voting instead of judges would be best for that. In terms of competition we should have a hard and fast entry received date but we could place it quite far off to keep it casual. Why don't we end this mid December with a week for voting so that the winner is announced on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Or do we want something done and dusted sooner?
I'm not too worried about all of the security type hoop jumping we do for official Dakka contests. I say we all just post our WIP pictures as we go. Keep it relaxed and fun but reasonably serious.
Shae, if you can provide some sort of prize or prizes that would be awesome. I'll leave that ball entirely in your court, just post up whenever you figure it out.

Yeh go ahead and start if you wish or if you already have something you never finished that's fine too, nice and relaxed. I just need know what the plan actually is in case I need to jump in and guide things along at some point.
Alpharius wrote:I'm guessing the usual pics of before, during and after?
Yep, I think we should aim for a picture of where you are at the start, a picture of the finished piece and as many work in progress pictures as you can during the competition. No secret entries, this should be all about throwing the Exrah into the limelight.
Alpharius wrote:Let's get a consensus (!) here and then launch!
For sure, do we want a new thread like we normally do? Or we have this one and your Caskuda one which we could use either of.
Cool, we'll stick with the Christmas thing and maybe Shae will throw a prize in at some point. I'll think about emailing Corvus after we get going to alert them to what we are doing and see if they want to 'get involved.'
I'll put something together in the OP later on, in the mean time I guess we should post to our blogs, invite people via pm and just get the word out to the masses.
Well I was looking into extremophiles and radioresistant life for inspiration. Turns out cockroaches aren't as impressive as we always hear it's just that their cells kind of pause for long periods. Fruit fly, drosophila melanogaster, comes up quite a lot and apparently shellfish can all handle a good amount of radiation before they die. It seems though that the parasitoid wasp, habrobracon, is the big daddy in this field.
And what do they all have in common? Brown... Which is good! Because I kind of want to try a shiny cockroach style exoskeleton. Some interesting markings and stuff though so that could be carried forward.
That's great! I find almost everything interesting in some respect so I'm full of useless information that no one wants to hear. I have atrocious general knowledge though...
Also I saw a lot of quite bright orange eyes on the fruit flies so now I'm thinking about: the fact that under certain circumstances certain radioactive materials emit a glow; and waste biology; and OSL.
Awesome ideas, how about "Bugs for Bucks!" on a billboard. And good to hear you have stuff in now Shae. I'll be tearing into that Caskuda first in my November order. Got a conversion planned already!
I've decided my original idea for the Caskuda was terrible so I went on an inspiration hunt which has given me a couple of thieved ideas. Still not sure though. Do we have anything other than the blurb on the Caskuda miniatures page(which is just a rewrite of the Caskuda rulebook blurb) to work from? Anything would be handy. The paint jobs make me think the armour on the Isk and the Cas TAG are supposed to be biological but the fluff suggests otherwise.
Sorry Alph I always forget you're blocked out. I'm guessing you can't use filterbypass or something like that?
Caskuda Caskudas are insects similar to cockroaches, but worse. Native to Acontecimiento, they are big, reproduce at full speed, can fly, have a very resistant shell and are immune to almost any legal insecticide.
Overall, an absolutely hateful, foul and disgusting nightmare. The first time that PanOceanian troops suffered an attack from the Concordat Armoured Jump Operators, they reminded them so much of those disgusting creatures that they baptized them with the same name. Caskudas are T.A.G.s equipped with trans-atmospheric flight units that can be launched from atmospheric aircraft or from planetary orbit. During re-entry to the atmosphere, the acceleration can surpass 6Gs. The adaptable geometry of Caskudas can assume complex aerodynamic models to maximise speed and reduce friction. From thirteen miles of height, their repulsors are activated to descend at supersonic speeds and then gradually diminish to the subsonic. Stabilizing fins erupt from their backs with the aim of adapting to the higher density of atmosphere. Their entry to the battlefield could be easily mistaken for a meteorite shower until they land… In fact, Caskudas do not actually land, even though they could if they wanted to. Caskudas crash and explode all over the battlefield, trying to spread confusion in the enemy ranks. So, the sequence is this: first you feel the impact of an artillery projectile, then the projectile arises from the ground and starts shooting everybody. How would you feel if the enemy bombs you with heavily armoured T.A.G.s?
It's pretty much identical to what's in the rulebook. Is there anything else I've missed in the books?

I read a piece on the Iskaller that referenced a Combat Shell or some such thing which made me think that, that armour is being worn. It all seems very vague though. I feel like I'm missing some passages within the books.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Flight Shells!
Iskaller Jump Operators have a surprisingly unstoppable combat intuition and courage. They are chosen individually, for only the most resolute, deft and skilled Ephemerals interested in obtaining benefits for the Concordat Exrah will do.
Jump Operators are ambitious and they crave missions that will provoke the admiration of the company and give them an opportunity to promote themselves. In order to fulfil the demands of their operative profile, the Iskallers have improved metabolisms that allow them to support the strong stresses of re-entry during trans-atmospheric tactical flights. Their flight shells allowing them to attack from the least expected directions.

Unless it's armour over radio-resistant skin like a flight suit which is how I think that passage reads. I'm not doing an Isk anyway, haha. I'm just trying to uncover something that'll inspire my Caskuda.
