Hi everyone,

We've been playing a bit of X-wing recently. And, to add some texture to the game, we built up a Death Star trench -- going to try out our Death Star trench tomorrow with our 40K friend Mr. E.

- We've built it pretty wide. Think anyone could argue that it's maybe 50% or even 100% larger than the "REAL LIFE" Death Star trench. But, we're not very good pilots - so probably going to be helpful to keep things fun.
- Going to try out a simplified version of trench rules - so of like some DagobahDave shared with us.
- Organize the battle into "runs" of the trench - and allow for multiples if there are still ships left.
- Haven't figured out how to handle "use the force, Luke" yet - curious if anyone has any good ideas.

Here's a link to our write-up if anyone is curious to see our trench construction.... http://battlegaming1.blogspot.com/2014/10/x-wing-death-star-trench.html

Thanks

WOW That is awesome! Great job o the construction and the blog.

I am also very curious if anyone has any rule for a trencher game. What ships would wok best? I assume turreted and very nimble ships.

Hi BrotherTri,

Have heard of several rules-sets for playing with a trench. Some of them are pretty sophisticated.

Since we're way more on the beginner side of the spectrum we're going to try something simple:

- Rebels and Empire get equal points of "snub fighters" -- maybe 100 points each
- Empire gets turbo laser turrets. DagobahDave had the cool idea of they are 4 attack dice - but each ship fired upon gets 2X normal defense dice (since turbo lasers are slow and clumsy)
- Rebels get the Falcon (or some big ship like that)

Since our trench is pretty long, and since Empire ships are usually a little faster, we're going to playtest the following:

- Rebels start 2 turns ahead of Empire (down the trench)
- Falcon starts 2 turns after that - but mid-trench

And, figure that if either side gets to the end, they can start again (another run) with the remaining forces

Going to try some crazy rule where if "Luke" shoots without target lock - he can hit with focus icon dice. Not sure if that even makes sense, but wanted to try to work the movie part in somehow....

Thanks
