On the back of a hog.

Buddy of mine runs multiple iron priests with cyber wolves, multiple battle leaders/other characters, attached to TWC or 15 fen wolves. The thing hits like a ton of bricks, can split of characters, and can hit multiple units with its large footprint.

I play cav rush daemons with some psykers to summon.

HM, you should be able to pack unit leaders and heralds with greater ether blades. For most daemon cav, thats lots of attacks hitting at high initiative, ap 2 and S 4-5 (or even 6).

Sounds like the SW player dont care much for shooting, so Daemon princes or GDs would actually be quite safe untill they get in to CC.
A keeper or thirster might be great support here. Keep them behind your cav and assault where they are most needed.

I would say your Initiative is your strong side, and also the fact that the wolf dont focus on shooting.
Forget summoning unless you have a devoted summoning list. And dont try flicker fire against T4.
(actually, dont bother with the psychers, get heralds with etherblades instead)

What? Why?

Summoning is perhaps the best strategy here. You only need a unit a turn.

TWC can be blocked. Summon a squad of daemonettes and spread them out in front of the TWC.
Prevent them from getting to objectives or eating large parts of your army.

Do TWC have any way to hit and run? If not then 2++ re-rollable unit wound be enough to hold them for as long as it takes.

I would usually advise against actually fighting the star, depending on the size of it.
If you did want to confront it then a unit of flesh hounds or seekers with heralds and buffs will give it a run for its money, but it will be a messy fight.

Invis Nurgle DP will make TWC star have a very bad day. If you issue a challenge, only a Wolf Lord or WGBL with the armor that makes it -5 ini in challenges could hope to accept with a decent chance of winning. If you rolled Iron Arm or Endurance, you're even more good to go, not to mention FN(P 4 + or re-roll invulns from the greater rewards table.

Challenges don't prevent your model from getting beat on anymore. So a DP in a challenge will still get hit by every other member of the star. I certainly wouldn't want a DP in there without increased toughness or eternal warrior, as the powerfists are str 10 and very likely to cause instant death.

This Blog: http://daemons40k.blogspot.nl/2014/10/dealing-with-thunderwolf-cavalry.html actually has very nice articles on Daemons and Chaos in general. Also touches on the TWC recently.

They are a pain though...

Really? I didn't know that outside models could hit lone models in challenges, I knew that said lone model couldn't refuse a challenge. Have a page number and section from the rule book? I must be missing it, feel like ive read the challenge section a bunch of times.

as said challenges don't protect you anymore.

i find dealing with other deathstars is to bring your own. hounds+heralds+grimorie+invisibility go a long way in dealing with them.

and yes twc can get hit and run with khan.

Seekers, with an attached Herald.

TWC don't respond well to 80 WS5 I5 rending attacks that re-roll failed to-hits.

Roll invisibility for maximum butt-stabbing.

Unfortunately, adding in a few storm shields drastically reduces the damage - 80 seekers do less than 4 wounds to Thunderwolves with Storm Shields, on average dice and with re-rolls to hit.

Not to say that this wouldn't work - 80 seekers, 2 heralds w/ Greater + lesser etherblades, Grimoire, invisibility - build a deathstar of your own.

The other option is to just hold them up as much as possible. Don't ever charge in to combat, instead just summon in a unit of Seekers or Bloodletters in front of them each turn and give them no option but to charge.
