So some friends of mine are always attaching characters to TWC, but what about just fenrisian wolves?

If you balance it right you can keep majority toughness 5 with the addition of Iron Priests + Cyber Wolves. It's like a better DE beast unit from last edition. Huge footprint. Plus, you get what, 5 fen wolves for the cost of a thunderwolf? That's 5 T4 wounds as apposed to 2 T5 ones, and more attacks.

Fenrisian Wolves are excellent as a mobile screen, but the lack of armour kills them. It's 5 T4 6+ wounds vs 2 T5 3+/3++ wounds. They serve a different purpose and I like having both.

I'm mostly talking about which make the better uber unit with attached characters.

Also, if your adding a Storm shield, that's another 2 fen wolves. Plus, you take some saves on the 2+ armour characters, and ap2 shots on your fen wolves in cover for a 5+.

I'd rather hold saves on my TWC against bolter fire than charge FW into it. They die quicker and the best I have seen them be used is holding an objective while hiding.

Why would the FW die when they have tanking characters attached?

Because your tanking character is either going to die to weight of fire, or the wolves will die from look out sir rolls.
