Right now we're looking at a Master of the Forge with Blood Angels allies.

What would the ideal loud outs be for both forces?

You could go SW with their 1 HQ 8 Elite formation. Literally all dreads.

Keep each dread cheap with ranged weapons. Don't try to add extra gimmicks, like 9 pods, 3 or 1 would be completely reasonable.

Consider backfield variant dreads with dual ranged arms.

if you do this, get an aegis. It is entertaining telling your opponent that your dreads have a 4+ save, on top of anything else they may have.

Would it be worth it to make the primary force Iron Hands (or Raukaan) just for the extras for dreads?

And if I am not mistaken, dreads can't hold objectives?

No, they can. Even Death Company Dreads can (and they would have ObjSec, unless superceded by an entry in their FAQ). It is just that HQ, Elite, & Heavy dreads won't have Objective Secured.

I would prefer the skyshield at this point. Too many things ignore cover. You can plant several dreads on top of this and have a 4++ from any direction. Additionally, they would have a better vantage point from being a few inches higher than the table.

Go MotF Raukaan, pay 2 bike squads tax, take skyshield for the invuns, then 3 ranged dreads and three Ironclads in pods, one of which has a hurricane bolter.

You then take BA with a Reclusiarch + Death Company as allies tax, and then a DC dread and a Furioso with Frag Cannon, both with Pods

Then in turn one you drop the DC and Ironclads, in turn 2 you drop the Furioso and Hurricane dread to mop up any dudes not about to be assaulted by an Ironclad

Or instead of BA take the Fell-hand formation with Fellhand and 2 (maybe more) dreads, cheaper and I think you can get Murderfang in there so you are not losing effectiveness.

But what about the Librarian dread that BA get?

Furioso can upgrade to a Librarian

so then you can have a Frag Cannon & Psychic powers on the same model

if I recall correctly, the Furioso's weapons are replaced with a DCCW and a force weapon.

and you can replace the DCCW for the Frag Cannon I think...

Ill check

EDIT: It says may upgrade to a librarian exchanging all wargear for a Blood Fist (built in SB), Force weapon, Psychic hood & smoke launchers.

And then elsewhere it says may replace a Blood Fist with a Frag Cannon.

Personally, I don't see the issue with a Frag Cannon Librarian

Space wolves, champions of fenris.
Your force org is 1 HQ 2 elites, up to 8 elites. SW have a HQ dreadnought. The sword/shield dreadnought is nice, and helfrost is pretty sweet. Plus, no pesky taxes, you just get all this cool stuff.

There is also a FW salamanders HQ dreadnought who is insanely cool.

Give them all drop pods and you will be set!

The thing of it was that the option to exchange the DCCW for the frag cannon was above the option for the librarian dreadnought. The rationale for that at the time (I used to play BA) was that you could swap for the frag cannon but then you would lose it when you go down the list and upgrade it to a librarian dreadnought. Personally, I would have loved being able to do so, but at the time it was believed that it was redundant.

well, I always thought of it as a list of options, as opposed to a chronological list of options.

After all, the places where it seemed to specify otherwise, such as the 5th edition Guard codex, said things like "any member who has not been upgraded in any manner detailed above, may take blahblahblah". The absence of something similar seems to suggest you can.

At least, that's my take on it

Clan Rakaan with Iron hands allies all the way.

If you run drop pods you can take 8 dreads, if you walk you can take 11.

Or, joint the dark side.

I'd say SW Fenris army for sure. This way you can have a 'pure' dread army.
