Hello,
My name is nick i am 30 years old. I have just started playing Warhammer 40k. I am currently collecting necrons. I only have 12 warriors 3 scarabs and an overlord but the army is slowly growing. I am basiclly looking for someone to maybe model/paint/game with who would like to teach me the game and even hold regular meetings maybe at a store or if you have a gaming board of your own wherever. i have a vehicle so as long as you arnt 50 miles away i am willing to drive to wherever. just with the bit of units i have i love every bit of this hobby and would love to start playing games with someone. anyway looking forward to any/all players with the patience to teach a newbie.
Thank you,
Nick Kane

Welcome to Dakka, and gaming in the Empire State.
I’m north of Albany, so probably outside your drive range. There is a Player Finder link in the header you might want to check out. It’s been a while since someone was asking for a game in your area, but there are players all over the state. Here’s the latest thread. If you follow my links in those, you should be able to get some help. I try to chime in on all the NY threads, so a search for my posts in this section of the boards should yield some hits.
While not quite the same as face-to-face, if you have questions or need advice, feel free to ask questions in the relevant sections of the board here. It’s always nice to see fresh players enter the hobby.

Hey man, I'm right in cuse and could help you out. Send me a PM. I've been painting for years and just joined a league to play once per week. I'm new to the dice ruling portion of this game. Would love to introduce you to some people that have helped me out with the whole getting started thing.

Hey Nick,
There's quite a few places you can hit up in upstate. Syracuse has both Play the Game, Read the Story and Comix Zone. Those are both pretty close to you.
If you're up for a bit of a drive, Millennium Games in Rochester probably has the strongest 40K tournament scene (tourney every 2nd Saturday). That's the one I go to the most. Rochester also has Pair a Dice Games and Boldo's armory. Pair a Dice focuses more on fantasy.
Geneva has a small game group. Check out Finger Lakes wargamers on facebook.
Buffalo has a decent sized game group as well. They just threw their first GT event, the Beef and Wing Brawl, and it was a great time.
If you have a weekend day free either the 22nd or 23rd of November, you should swing by Da Boyz GT at the Bristol Harbor Hotel in Canandaigua. I know it's a GT, but consider just hanging out for a while. The event will have the best terrain you'll see outside of Warhammer World. You'll be able to meet up with local hobbyists and other gamers.
Aside from that, swing by our forums: thegrandstrategery.proboards.com
I'm Crispy on the boards. Shoot me a PM (that goes for anyone else in the area). Our club is trying to do more meet-ups and paint clinics too.

thanks guys for all the referrals and options for places to play. looks like this Thursday at comix zone will be my first time doing a meetup with a couple people here on Dakka. Extremely excited about it. maybe ill bring some of my models and paint for some painting tips. do they allow painting at comix zone?
