Very very nice work.

How did you achieve the rust effect on the blades? Pigments? And the silver dots?

Cheers BWarlord!

For the blades I basecoated them Vallejo Gunmetal, washed with Nuln Oil followed by Reikland Fleshshade, then drybrushed / stippled on some Forge World Orange Rust weathering powder. I then used Vallejo Steel on a small piece of sponge to apply the silver chips / spots.

This Is Where the Fish Lives

Like all of your work, these are very well executed.

The weathering is top notch and in just the right amount to not be distracting.

I love almost everything about these. The only thing that irks (perhaps even that is too strong a word) me is the yellow - unless my monitor is playing tricks on me, it has a distinctly green tinge. The other colors are vivid enough that something a bit warmer (for contrast, without tweaking the brightness overmuch) wouldn't look out of place and could help keep the armor from getting lost in the sea of green skin.

Besides, Bad Moonz wear yellow, not chartreuse!

That aside, everything else is (as mentioned) fantastic, from the brushwork to the basing to the weathering. Thanks for sharing!

I actually like the more muted tone of the yellows, I find it works well with the naturalistic look of the rest of the palette you've used. Great job on the weathering too.

Hey loving the orks!

love your metal work i must say il be adding a little more powder to my works from now on

I too enjoy the dirty/grungy muted colours, truely ork-esque. I really enjoy your work on their trousers too. lovely colour use and transitioning.

Improvements; I literally just commented this in another thread, but recently ive really enjoyed using a little wash around the lower lip when building up the tooth tones. A nice thin red/maybe slightly purple tinge i find really accentuates the orks lips. As its one of the orks major features. Heres an image of what i mean, Although this has been done through a different method it gives the right idea.

I find often an orks face is a little overwhelmed by how green it is all over. So a little tinge on the lips really completes the face and details how their skin tones do vary. I personally use a little red wash at the stage after ive finished the greens but before I finish up the teeth and do any dark brown/black oil washes. I also tend to leave their lower lips less green to allow the red to show up better. But in general I think your orks are bloody awesome! So keep the pictures coming.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!

@ oadie, I deliberately went yellow-y green rather than yellow as I wanted something a bit different. Also I wanted to tie them in to the Deff Dread I already painted:

@ Solar, good call, it would be good to have some transition on the lips. I might try that on the Nobz.

Cheers guys

@ Odengrim, the skin took a few steps but was quicker than it sounds: I primed them Vallejo grey, then basecoated the skin Vallejo Goblin Green, shaded from below with Carroburg Crimson and highlighted with 50/50 Goblin Green / Elf Flesh (all airbrushed). I then gave it a wash with Athonian Camoshade and did brush highlights on the hands and faces with varying mixes of Goblin Green and Elf Flesh adding more Elf Flesh each time.

Hope that helps!

Wowee-Zowee!

These Orks are fantastic. As others have said, the skin, rust and clothing all look amazing. I've never tried airbrushing, but you are making me want to try it.

I can't wait to see your entire hoard painted up!

I'm with Oadie on this; get a thin glaze of a red or purple onto the lips and bring those boyz to life. They're a little flat right now.
A pinkish tone just on the nose and ear flaps also helps add interest to the face. Takes seconds, but it well worth it.
