Been Around the Block

Hey guys i'v been tempted with Fantasy for a while now and in our nearest town they are holding a Warhammer school league event soon which i discovered is 800p. The town is 45 minutes away from me so i don't get to call in regularly but next time i do id like to start building for the army. My question is what armies are user/newbie friendly? Pro's/con's, In 40k i prefer the shooting, if that helps for fantasy then awesome! So yeah what's newbie friendly and where to start?

Thanks in advance

1) Empire
The Empire offers lots of diversity in play styles through its deep roster compared to other armies.

Pros - You can do almost anything in the game:

Calvary, Fast Calvary Monstrous Calvary, War machines, unit attachments etc.

Cons - You will be a jack of all trades, master of none. Winning with empire means you can't just blindly assume you'll always outshoot the shooting-only armies, or out-melee the combat-centric armies.

Humans are boring from a fluff standpoint. This is subjective, I know.

2) All three elven armies can put together respectable shooting and have special rules that can make them combat beasts if you provide the right support (such as magic buffs) as well.

dawrfs!
pros
hit like bricks they shoot pretty good tough and war machine every where, runes! tricked out stuff magic resistance, kinda a neat rule where your whole army might hate the other army drunken angry brawls about whos brew is better ect ect...

cons
they have horrible movement, you have a wizard but no spells, kinda expensive point wise. that grudge rule might not happen with your whole army all the time.

+1 vote for Empire.

They do everything well and can field all sorts of cool army lists. Models generally look great painted and standing next to one another, the core box choices have lots of options.

If you like melee beat-facing, and super cool models, I suggest Chaos. They have like no ranged, though, so that's their con. Otherwise, they have saves for days, lots of interesting choices, etc.

And, for shootiness: I'd say Dark Elves are pretty great! Never played them, though.. Only lost to them.

Thanks for the input guys, spent a lot of time in my local GW and still could'nt make a decision its between Goblins, Dwarfes and vampires , all look incredibly cool, vampires just look that little more difficult, but i'm 100% considering the Dwarves

read some fluff and get your army, some are more competitive, some are more funny, some need experience. Also look the GW site for get inspired by the miniature.
Also is important if you´d like a swarm of guys or more an elite kind of of army, with less guys.
Than decide if you feel more aggressive by melee, magic, ranged or balanced.
In the end, just as you know, there are some very good sites that give very good discount and ship in reliabale site.
I don´t know if i can write them here,so if you wanna know, just pm me.
cheers.

I'm doing the School's Tournament as well and I'd say High Elves are as they are included in the IOB set, so you just have to buy a couple of them and sell on the Skaven. Another good reason why you should buy them is because if you like shooting units, they have plenty. About 50% of a HE army is shooting attacks. They have also got a very wide range of different models like Dragons, Eagles and Griffons. Hope this helps!
