We poured over the rulebook to look to see if anything prevented you from just sitting on the relic and denying people from picking it up.

Anyone have a rulebook excerpt or a way to play it? Thanks.

No, there is nothing stopping you from doing that, as it isnt impasable terrain. You of course still score it as well, as it is now a normal objective.

So you still score the relic, regardless of whether you pick it up (as a vehicle?) Can you cite a page that I can research this on?

Thanks.

Yes, the rules for the Relic mission. Note that it is now a normal objective, unlike 6th where you had to be holding it to score. It also means you can contest it - in most ways it is a normal objective, the exception being that it can be moved.

Thank you, this is huge. Cost me quite a few games recently at my LGS. This thread can be locked. I found it on page 134 and cross referenced it with the Primary Objective rules on page 147 for the Relic.

This gives me an idea; doesn't the Relic's rules say that the model holding it can only move 6"? So if you had something on the large oval base, long ways, could you "slingshot" the relic an extra 5" (the length of the base)??

One way you can counter this is to make objective markers out of bits, and put things like flags or antennas on them. You can still technically park a land raider on top of it, but most players will just sort of "assume" that they can't.

No, no models can turn while moving but no part of the base can end over 6'' from the starting point of the base for a 6'' movement (as in, you can't gain distance from turning).

That is vehicles you're thinking of prankster. MC/FMC can rotate willy-nilly.

Even so, think of this situation. A Tervigon grabs the relic by his face. Opponent shoots, but tervi passes all his cover saves (screening gants / venomthropes). He then moves 6" directly back, and places the relic behind him. He only moved 6" and the relic maintains B2B with him though it moved 11". I'll see about a picture showing this later today.

Seems legit.

I think if you have to allow rotating Land Raiders to get an extra 1-2" charge range, you kind of have to allow slingshotting the Relic, RAW. I understand it's not exactly the same rulebook entries, but feels like the same concept.

It's in the movement rules, don't have a ref atm but in that section. You can turn as many times as you want, but no part of the base can be more than 6 from the bases starting point.

If only the model has the restrictions, where does it say the objective has to still be in the same relative location of the model?

I couldn't find it in the rules, but for all we know, the Relic could freely "orbit" the holding model.

Pretty sure that the rules don't get that granular as far as where on the model the relic in question is being carried.

A Riptide could not, for example, hold the relic in one hand over the head of a Space Marine and keep it out of reach... it moves into the realm of Absolutely Silly.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
