Subject: Starting a Necron Army!!

Hey Guys,
So I have decided I want to start a Necron army and needed some advice on a couple of points!!
Firstly, what to buy?
I was thinking that a Battleforce would be the first port of call with either a CCB or Nemesor Vahndrekh for the HQ choice.
I'd build the Battleforce as Immortals and Ghost Ark as opposed to Death Marks and Doomsday Ark - However any suggestions against this are welcomed!!
Secondly, I need some inspiration for a paint scheme for the army!! So any suggestions to a cool paint scheme for 'Crons would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance guys!!

Well, first off the bat, use some extra warrior torsos/legs for the immortals and get both Deathmarks and Immortals.
Second off, CCB is an amazing deal because you don't have to glue the gun, so it can be either kind of barge, and it comes with a free HQ choice. Value!
Personally, I love the gold/teal scheme if the person painting has some weathering skills to make it look ancient. Personally I use a slightly modified version of the basic scheme with the black/green/silver and I've added white skull masks onto every cron to make them pop.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I think your on the right track with what to buy.
When I started Necrons, I mimicked the normal metallic color scheme. I've sometimes wished that instead of metallic, I went with bone white, with metallic highlights at the joints and such. I'm not sure if this would be difficult because I know white isn't the easiest color to make models look good, but it's an idea.
I also like the rusty look as depicted in some photos in the codex.

Maybe the cheapest way to get something playable is getting:
- the Battleforce, use the legs of warriors to complete Immortals and Deathmarks, as hinted above
- a Catacomb Command Barge. If you do not glue the cannon or the command stand into place you can easily use it as both. 2 small magnets are even better. Even if you use it as an Anni Barge you still have the Overlord as HQ choice.
Good ways to continue from that:
- one more Battleforce or if too expensive
- a pack of warriors to compensate for the 5 you used to build both Deathmarks and Immortals
- 1 or 2 Night Scythes
- 6 Wraiths and a Destroyer Lord
At least that's how I would start if I hadn't done this a long time ago

For paint scheme find something that you think you would enjoy painting/playing with/ looking at. If not just go for the default necron color scheme if you like. I personally have a very very bright egyptian paint scheme and hierarchy for my necron army.
|
It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

I've seen, and tried a few, non traditional paint schemes for Necrons, but unless you're painting skills are above average, it's hard to beat the old Terminator style scheme. Some Black weapons, with bright green details, and glowing green eyes just looks good.
Coppertone, whille a bit darker overall, works nicely as well.
