Are daemon engines like the Subjugator, Blood Slaughterer, Decimator, Defiler, Lord of Skulls and Brass Scorpion built by mortal hands or are they crafted in the warp like daemons ? I notice when they're featured most of the time its them being spilled from the warp instead of arriving with the renegade forces that employee them.

Also do daemon titans and knights spend time in the warp or are they always in real space ?

And is it possible for any daemon engine to lead a daemonic incursion ? I know their bound, but it seems like a brass scorpion or lord of skulls is atleast on par with a greater daemon in power.

Generally the hull is made by humans and the body then possessed by a demon.

I do not believe the demonic possession is on the level of a greater demon. I actually really doubt it. But then again, I don't think the possessing demon is really classifiably as lesser or greater.

As far as leading an incursion, why not? You could justify it in the fluff and replicate it on the table.

Painted armies:

Orks: 11000 points
Marines: 9500 points
Khorne Marines: 2500 points
Khorne Demons: 1500 points

In the sanctus reach Hour of the Wolf there was a lord of skulls powered by a greater daemon (one of Angron's crucor praetoria). Apparently khorne frowned apon its failure to defend angron in the first war of armageddon and put it in the daemone engines shell (making the question of the lord of skulls construction even more confusing).

In the deamon dex there is the fluff on soulgrinders that describes them being made in deamon forges.
