1) Can someone with an Imperial Bastion and a Leman Russ be so kind as to tell us if the tank fits on the Battlements without a gun emplacement up there? Is there room to fit more (say a infantry squad) up there? If so, how many? Pics would be appreciated.

2) How would you react if your opponent put a Leman Russ (say, Pask Punisher) on top of a Bastion? What would YOU put up there?

3) Is there anything rule wise preventing this shenanigan from happening?

4) Does anyone already do this? Story time?

All comments are welcome.

1. Yes it fits.
2. I guess I would be okay with it, but I don't know why it is much of an advantage.
3. No, and you could argue they could drop it in with a lifter aircraft.
4. I have three bastions and 8 leman russes. I can't see any value in placing a tank up there. I just put them behind an aegis if I am worried. They won't be able to shoot most of their guns if you bought sponsons.

I don't know why it is much of an advantage.

LOS to everything, pretty much un-assaultable (the LR big weakness), 4+ cover. Those are huge benefits. The amount of points you would save on bubble-wrapping alone!

I have never bubble wrapped a single leman since they are not all that great. A bastion is a pretty poor means of protecting a substandard choice, though you could put anything up there so I get the idea.

Also, think about having a CCS in the bastion w/ an Aquila. Now the tank on top, everything inside, and everything within 6" has preferred enemy....

Once opponents get within range, you've pretty much lost Line of Sight to them with most, if not all, of your guns....

Keep in mind a few important points.

When measuring range and LoS you measure from the gun. This means a punisher will struggle to have range and LoS to most targets.

If you take a tank commander (aka pask) you need to keep him within 4" of the tank command squad. If you stick pask in the tower then the other tanks will need some help to stay within 4" of him.

The aquila of preferred enemy works great in a firestorm redoubt, Aquila Strongpoint with macro cannon, or in a stormlord LoW. Any of these three uses tends to be vastly more powerful. Just keep in mind the CCS looses any ability to give commands when you leave them in their transport.

What does work well in a bastion roof is a unit of rapier las destroyers. The extra LoS is nice.

The only time I would accept a Leman Russ on top of a Bastion is if Creed was leading your army.... or if you have the dropper plane from FW. Tbh, you've just gotta make it fluffy and then I'd accept it.

Leman Russ wouldn't benefit the most from this honestly... However, you've got me thinking.

A Basilisk on top of a Bastion would be scary. Really scary! Those things have awesome range, and don't even need line of sight to fire... 9 times out of 10 mine dies to assault... And I usually sink points in to an Aegis Line just for him...

A Hydra now... Great range again, and the models it's designed to shoot are on flying stems... And again, mine dies to assault....

Now this, this sounds like something I might try

So, you've now effectively bought a building for a 4+ you could have gained by putting the tank behind a building or heck just buying an aegis, and you've leashed Pasks poor buddy tank to it as well. Not to mention he's got only 24" range on most of his guns so you're going to be out of range most of the time....

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Boom! Leman Russ Commander

i wouldnt put a russ on top of the bastion. Main reason is because i'd rather have the AA gun up top. Another is because even though the models may fit, I'm not sure it could pivot without picking it up and repositioning it I would feel I was cheating if I did that when it couldnt actually pivot without doing that.

Something I had considered was putting a few long ranged items like a deathdstrike or russ or shadowsword on top of the landing pad. Lots more room to move/pivot and enough room to put other units up there as well (dont think it van collapse lie a bastion (could be wrong on that though) and the save is invulnerable (unless you just took the cover save from the sides which could be better if ya gave whatever camo). Also makes more sense to me from a fluff viewpoint.
