Soo a longish while back I dropped out of 40K - multiple reasons but carnifex'es dropping duel heavy weapons and my two main fex's then being illegl (no magnets) kinda stung a bit and the nids went on the shelf (so yeah its been while!)

Since then I made some start on building up a Demons of chaos army, hoping to make it 40K and Warhammer compatible, but whilst I picked up a fair few models (including a good few in metal off ebay) I've just never gotten around to getting it near to finished in building, let alone mucking around with bases and magnets. Having started picking up Wood Elves and High Elves as well I think that I'm good for fantasy now - I don't "need" the deamons (even though I do like a good few of them and they are getting some neat releases at present - though nothing Slannesh).

So fastforward and harpies, winged tyrants, exocrines - loads of really big really neat nids have come out and I've kind of got the bug again to consider dusting my nids off and getting back into them.

However that presents a problem - my nids are not super old, but at a time when I couldn't "see" mould lines and other imperfections. As a result most of them show mould lines (in now very tricky areas that they are assembled). Metal models its not too much a worry, I can dip them and wash them back to a near clean standard plus their bonds oft break when they are left in the detol for a long while so they can be broken and repaired.

Plastic though won't clean up like that - indeed whilst I can get paint off (true to me most are not painted)any plastic bonds are permanent.

So what should I do - muck on and try to clean up the old nids - accepting that I might not get them ideally cleaned - that I might have a couple of fexes which I can't change the weapons on (no magnets on them). Or should I say - ok I made some mistakes lets sell up the bulk of the plastics and get a fresh clean start with things.

Financially I know the latter isn't sound - I'll never sell them for more than I got them but mentally and model wise it might be a better move?

So what are your thoughts - sound idea or am I just crazy?

For reference on the plastic to sell list would be:
40 hormagaunts
40 stealers
10 termagaunts
2 dakka fexes (2 twin linked devourers)
2 sniper fexes (2 heavy weapons)
1 crusher fex (claws and scything talons)
9 tyranid warriors of various setups

Practically I'd want fexes and warriors with magnets - my one tyrant is part metal and plastic so he's an easy fix (into the detol). It's a fair chunk, though most of its is in fexes that I'm not keen on hacking at the joints with.

So what are your views -mad or sane?
