I run a Nurgle Themed Daemon Army, and I am adding in some heralds. I wanted to create a few heralds that would be mounted so that I could run them as Tzeentch Heralds on Discs or Korne Heralds on Juggernauts.

Here is my idea....I was thinking of Purchasing the GW Nurgle Heralds http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Chaos-Daemons-Herald-of-Nurgle and somehow have them riding the FW Nurgle Spined beasts... see here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/GIANT-SPINED-CHAOS-BEAST.html

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can successfully and convincingly convert a Nurgle Herald to be riding one of those spined beasts? Would it be best to create some sort of chariot?? Is the spined beast too big?

This would be a pretty big $$ commitment for 2 mounted heralds, so I wanted to see if the more experienced conversion artists thought this would be possible, before I go out and purchase the necessary models.

I'm also open to other suggestions for different mounts if someone can think of something better.

First thought is to make sure the Spine Beast is small enough to fit into the required base size (looks like it might be a touch big on the FW pictures but its hard to tell).

After that I'd say that considering the shape of the beasts spine the herald won't be riding it sitting down -it would be more riding by standing. So what you'd need to consider is a standing pose (not too hard to model with the standard model) and then add some kind of leash setup. Maybe straps around the beasts belly up to a hand-held rope - or if you're more bold with greenstuff the herald could be holding onto a pulled up section of skin from the beast (painfully stretched of course - as befitting nurgle).

A few flowing items on the herald himself to suggest motion and you're away.

edit - stomach parts from the herald which have bled down and then melted into the spinebeasts back acting as the leash - leaving both his arms free. All you'd need is to continue the dribbling entrails down to the spinebeasts body and then do a tormented area with the stomach acids melting and then blending with the spinbeast.
