Singer/guitarist Wayne Static (born Wayne Richard Wells) of the industrial metal band STATIC-X has passed away at the age of 48. His death was confirmed by Wayne's publicists at FiXT Publicity.

No further details are currently available, but some of Wayne's associates have indicated that his passing may have been the result of a drug overdose.

Jacoby Shaddix (PAPA ROACH): "RIP Wayne.... This is so sad. Too many musicians are dying from overdoses. I'm serious, addiction is real and takes fools out. No one is invincible. So glad I live a sober life today. The number of friends that I have lost to addiction is crazy. If you are struggling witn addiction, get some help before it's too late. I know drugs and partying are part of the 'rock 'n' roll lifestyle,' but damn, how many more gotta die??? feth the lifestyle, I want life!!!! See you on the other side, Wayne...."

That's a shame. I really liked Static X. They came onto the scene whilst I was in my early 20's and shaped a lot of what I listened to over the next 5 or so years. Many a game of 40k or WHFRP had Static X as the soundtrack...

Yeah they have a great sound that just seemed to fit any moment where you need to either kick major ass or drive to fast.

My introduction to Static-X was through Duke Nukem but I knew a lot of people in 6th Form who liked them too. Great band, great music. Such a shame.

Saw this last night. It's very sad. Static-X was the third real concert I ever went to, when they were on tour with Soulfly. One of the most energetic live shows I've ever been to.

Sounds like it might have a drug overdose. It's too bad he wasn't able to get help.

Static X was one of the first bands that got me into the groove/industrial metal scene and I cannot thank them enough. I always heard Wayne was a great guy, the metal community lost an innovator and a great hair style.

I remember listening to Static-X in about year 2000, not a bad little band. Certainly one of the better nu-metal acts.

Where they actually still together as a band? I can't recall hearing anything new from them in about 10 years, not that I’ve paid much attention to the metal scene recently. In fact the last I heard of them was when their guitarist got into trouble for sleeping with underage fans about 10 years ago.

Nope they'd split a while back. He was doing a solo project for a good while.

Well, not sure if it's really news, but it's "publicist official"

For the work blocked: he died in his sleep, not due to drugs.

New press release stating it wasn't drug-related. He "passed away quietly in his sleep". Looking for a good link(read it on Facebook app)
