Sincerest apologies if these are stupid questions, but 'm just getting into the game and I think I want a Master Of The Forge as my (first) HQ. I just have a few questions about him. I tried to search for an existing thread on this subject but failed.

Firstly, does a model exist of a Conversion Beamer wielding Master of the Forge mounted on a bike? All I'm finding is converted models and build threads which suggest not.

If it is the case that the model must be custom built, what techniques/kits have others used to produce this character?

Secondly, can a MotF/Techmarine repair fliers?

Oh, and he can still repair stuff while carrying the beamer, right? Just not quite as effectively as his original harness would allow, correct?

Finally, is this a stupid idea? I'm quite This Guy about the whole thing, so I don't mind if he isn't ultra-competitive. It's just, I don't have a lot of money to spend on the game and don't want to spend all that time, effort and money on finding/buying/building the model only to realise he's utterly useless. So what does everybody think of the MotF, and does the benefit he gains from the beamer, bike or both justify the investment?

To contextualise, my little force currently consists of a couple of rhino-borne tacsquads, a few homefield assets like snipers/devastators, and a pair of stormtalons. I like the idea of the stormraven too, if I continue to play and get into the game I suspect I will want a one, as well as a whirlwind and perhaps a dread or two if necessary. I don't really like the dreads, but people keep telling me I'd benefit from them. I intend to play Iron Hands CTs, especially if I pick up a 'raven or land raider on the cheap. I was originally playing Imp. Fists and was only going to use a Master to fortify something and sit in it with some meaty Devastators, trying to pick things off with the beamer. Then someone said my force was quite mechanised, and that he might benefit from a bike so that, if there's nothing to beamsnipe, he can shuttle around trying to fix things instead.

Thanks for reading, everyone! Any comments or advice appreciated

A model does not exist with either the Beamer, a Bike, or both - so you'd need to convert one.

A Techmarine can repair Zooming Flyers, but only if he's embarked in it (can't embark into a Stormtalon, and you can't load a bike into a Stormraven), so in order to repair it, the flyer would need to Hover (making it much more vulnerable) - page 85 of the Rulebook "Reparing Zooming Flyers".

A MoTF with a Beamer can still repair vehicles (as he still has the Blessing of the Omnisiah special rule).

As to whether he's effective, I've no idea sorry!

I don't think there's even a model of a MoTF at all, OR a conversion Beamer that isn't from FW.

Also, what would be the point of him riding a bike then? Isn't a conversion Beamer a super long ranged artillery type weapon?

I think he can only repair a flier he's in, not from the ground, unless the latest SM codex included an Astartes pattern wrench gun.

"Commander, my right engine is hanging by a shred of plasteel! I'm doomed!"

"Fly straight, battle brother! This won't be a problem for my industrial rivet gun!"

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

There are 2 Techmarine models with Servo-Harnesses (not including the TFC gunner), it's a bit like the difference between a Captain and a Chapter Master - i.e. there isn't one.

The Bike gives him Relentless, which is quite useful for the 'Heavy' Beamer. (Also, there is a Conversion Beamer model from GW - it came in Space Crusade over 20 ish years ago)

As stated before forgeowrld does have a very nice technarine with a huge cannon over his shoulder you could use as a convversion beamer

Thanks guys! I kind've expected to get flamed for noob questions (certainly not a comment on this community, more forums in general =P ) so I really appreciate the friendly advice I don't yet have a 7th Rulebook so I feel pretty hobbled when it comes to understanding the more intricate rule mechanics.

Extra thanks to Quanar! Just looked up Relentless.. I was going to give him a bike simply for flexibility, so that he could zoom off to fix a mech asset in dire straits or if everything foe-shaped had hidden from his uber-ray, but the idea that he can relocate and still fire is very enticing indeed!

Haha good point the_scotsman! It'd be quite the impressive targeting array that would allow you to deliver pinpoint repairs from the ground to an airborne entity moving at 100mph+!

Alright so I've just thought up an absurd scenario based on the information I now have. I read somewhere a debate about delivering the Blessing of Omnissiah to adjacent vehicles in base/hull contact with the vehicle you're embarked upon... If he can't fix my 'talons from the ground while they're zooming around, could I forget the bike/beamer, mount him in the 'raven, and use it to perform repairs on the talons without hovering? Only, I read somewhere that switching a stormtalon to hover mode is tantamount to killing it yourself ( although as mentioned before, I don't know why, only that somebody told me so...). I figure the answer to this is a resounding "No, you mental idiot!" but it's worth a fling!

Other than that, I think all of my utility wonderances have met their answer. So, anyone with experience on a beam/bike Master? Or tips on how they use theirs?

Again, many thanks everyone. The 40k community seems very accommodating compared to the playerbase of a few other hobbies I've dabbled in!

MOTF was my main HQ and I had to model my own beamer. (the loadout seen isn't legal, but it looked cool.)
