Subject: Modeling for an advantage question...

I have a very cool Ork Big Mek with KFF on bike, but I was unsure if people would think it was allowed. Basically, the big mek has a side car with the KFF on it, that doubles his width. Is this modeling for an advantage? Is it legal in a tournament?

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

What base do you use for the model? Any chance of a picture so we can see how big it is?
But mainly - would you be prepared to play it as if it was ordinary size? If "yes", then it's not MFA. If "no" you must be trying to gain some kind of advantage from it (I can't think of much scope for it here - he'll be harder to hide but take up more room in combat).
{Edit} Oh, and only the TO (Tournament Organizer) will be able to tell you about whether it's legal there - send him a picture and ask.

He's kind of a square so he doesn't have a base. I've just been using his KFF as measure from the actual FF instead of a base. I'd definitely play it as ordinary size as I just made it that way to look cool.

Generally if you have made it bigger people don't consider it modelling for advantage, because you have made it even easier for the enemy soldiers to see.

It depends on the person you are playing against on a case by case basis.
I've seen some people call MFA on any deviation from a stock models regardless of how small the conversion is or even if it is actually a DISadvantage to you. Why, they usually make something up.
I have also seen the other extreme where they will not care regardless of what you do or actually be MFA themselves.
Your best bet is to discuss it with your locals and TO who will actually see it in action and get their opinion. If you get mixed answers...perhaps, make up a second more stock type model to substitute when playing the ones who dont allow it.

My bikerboss is also way larger (read wider) than a regular ork boy or nob on a bike, to the point that it's mounted on a round dreadnought base as the huge wheels on his trike won't fit on a normal bike base. I've never had any trouble with him, but I admit it may be regarded as modelling for advantage in some circumstances, i.e. when determining the number of models in base-to-base contact when on close combat. That's why I always carry a spare bikernob to replace him, just in case someone suspects foul play on my side.

Few thoughts:
1) At any organised competitive event most times you'll find they'll err on the side of caution and ensure that base-sizes are standard. Thus if you're not using the proper base size for your model (bigger or smaller) then chances are it won't be allowed.
2) Most players don't know what the official base size is for most models; so you can likely play casual without many people even questioning it. However its a detail best said up-front because then they don't feel cheated (yeah even if it leaves you at a disadvantage to use the converted one).
3) If you've anything you think will be questioned chances are it will be - so always carry a legitimate version (esp if you are going to organised events) to swap in; or an alternative army list that does not need that model.
4) Always ask before major events if things are allowed - see the TO and show them the models or provide clear photographs if you can't. Asking way before is best because that way any problems can be sorted out in advance (last thing you want is to travel miles and then find that your army or significant portions of it are not allowed).
5) So long as its clearly different from other things on the table and on the right base most conversions will make it through. It tends to be when you're changing base size - or using something vastly bigger (line of sight blocking) or when you're using a conversion that looks identical to other things in your army - then you get people saying no.
As a general observation really well converted stuff often gets through where very bad ones don't. Fully converted armies can also often get through so long as you're very up-front about what is what and hte models don't all look like each other. Rule of cool often can be an influence.
