The Island Games is holding an escalation league in which players are battling at 500 pts with 250 being added every 2 weeks.
New players will be entering this narrative and while some are here for the games, others are here to roleplay and generally have fun.
New batreps will be posted as they arrive along with a special narrative batrep by our ork player.

The planet Dare’Oh has been surrounded in mystery since the 40th millennium. Cut off from life’s machinations by numerous global sized dust storms, the planet’s atmosphere is nigh impossible to enter. However, in 41st millennium, the storms have mysteriously vanished revealing lush forests, vast promethium reserves, and many artifacts thought lost in the warp. Like a massive bonfire in the night, the various forces in the sector have started to swarm towards in the planet, in hopes of not only claiming the planet resources for themselves, but as the perfect base of operations due to the planet’s strategic position in the cosmos.

Every two weeks we will announce the winners and what happened as a result of these victories and losses. We will also raise the next game you must play by 250 points.

The game must take place within the store.

At 1750 points the campaign will end and the person with the most wins will earn a prize.

Also, you don't have to be here every Monday if you choose. Results and opponents will be posted via this forum post and the store's facebook page that night.

Formations are ok, but they must be from an official source and cannot be printed or presented unofficially.

Forgeworld models are fine, but no pre heresy (30k).

Lords of War are also banned.

Terrain will be set up by a store employee.
There will always be 5 objectives. Each player will get 2 objectives that he can place anywhere within his deployment zone. Each objective however must be 12" apart and must be 6" from the board and not within impassable terrain. These are worth 1 point each. Another objective is in the middle of the board and is worth 3 points.
Line breaker, slay the warlord, and first blood are still in effect and are worth 1 point.
If tied, the winner is determined by the most victory points, which is how many points of casualties you have caused to the enemy army. Only completely removed units count for victory points. Even if one guy is alive in a 1000 point unit, you will not receive the points unless he is removed from the board. Units retreating or fleeing however count as casualties.
If there is still a tie, which is highly unlikely, the player who takes the second turn wins

All armies must follow the bound rules. No unbound.

As per normal tournament rules, your opponent must be able to have access to your list at the beginning of the game to check it over and at any point can ask to see it briefly. This is to prevent any cheating or people changing their lists mid way through the game. You do not have to provide a list for yourself AND your opponent. However, you do not share lists until both you and your opponent are ready to play. This prevents list tailoring.

If you are unsure about your schedule or feel at any point within a least one week that you cannot make your game, please email this so I can prepare a game for your opponent. It is ok if you are too busy or cannot make your game for a variety reasons, but please let me know before hand.

Do not be afraid to press on your opponent if they are not answering any calls or emails. Calling once and then hanging up is not a reasonable way to contact someone. Leave a voicemail, call once every 3 days. If you are really having problems, let the store know and we will do everything in our power to contact him/her.

We have quite few new players, many who have not played Warhammer 40k before, while some are adjusting to new editions. The first few rounds will result in new players potentially facing experienced players, but this will stop once we go through at least 2 rounds. We however ask that you be extremely patient and if you feel like you need help, please call for assistance immediately. If you are new and feel like you would like some practice before hand, I would be happy to demo a game and help you review anything you need help on. We do however ask that you read your codex and rule book EXTENSIVELY, even if you do not understand what everything means. This will make your games shorter and let you navigate your rules a little quicker. For all my more experienced players, thank you for your patience and support. Remember, you are not alone.

This report is from the perspective of the Farseer Tae Luith and may vary greatly from the perspective of others involved

Tae Luith stared out across the empty desert of sector 521 on the planet Dare'Oh. Visions of a great Chaos threat had brought his forces to this planet. Something strange was happening here and he was not certain of what. So many various forces had shown up at Dare'oh. It could not be a coincidence... From behind a ruined tower he stared at his destination, it was a small cylindrical object in the middle of the desert. He could sense strange energy pulsing from it. As he contemplated his next actions, he began to hear the load rumble of engines, not the soft hum of Eldar grav engines... Another force was approaching. He would have to get to the strange object before them. He gave a nod to his warlock Taleth. They knew what was coming, the forces of the Imperium. Taleth motioned to his Ulthwe Guardians and they loaded up into their Wave Serpent. It would offer far better protection against the might of the Imperium then their mesh armor ever would. Tae Luith swiftly motioned to his War Walker driver to outflank the incoming enemy. The Eldar forces were sparse and if they hoped to win the battle, they would need to act quickly and with great force.

Out of the dust cloud approaching Tae Luith stormed the forces of Marshall Zeruvar. He was leading a squad of bikers towards the strange cylinder their forces had detected from orbit. As he approached, he could see a black object with bone white markings... an Eldar Wave Serpent. The Eldar had gotten to the object first. Marshall Zeruvar knew he would need support to take out the Wave Serpent and immediately called for a Stormtalon to be sent to his location. He was meeting up with a group of scouts that he had sent ahead. They reported the Eldar numbers and warned him that there were enemy Psykers in their midst. All the better... Death to the Psyker!

Eldar 500 points
warlord - Tae Luith - farseer (singing spear) runes of fate (mind war, guide, fortune, executioner)
10 Guardians on a wave serpent with twin linked scatter laser and shuriken cannon
with a warlock(singing spear) runes of battle (Conceal/Reveal,Protect/Jinx) attached to guardians
5 dire avengers
war walker with brightlance and scatter laser (outflanking)

Black Templars 500 points (to the best of my recollection)
Marshall(captain) Zeruvar - artificer armor, bike, teeth of terra, combi weapon?
5 scouts with sniper rifles camo cloaks
1 Stormtalon with twin linked assault cannon and Skyhammer Missile Launcher
5 man bike squad with two meltaguns

PRE BATTLE
The battle was played on roughly a 4x4 board. Objective in the middle. Who holds it gets a point. Standard first blood, slay the warlord and line breaker.
Both sides roll for warlord traits on Strategic. Black Templars get the pinning one, Eldar get the stealth and move through cover for ruins... no ruins on the board, haha.
Neither of us said anything about night fighting so we skip it.
Eldar won roll off for table sides. Eldar won roll off for first turn and choose to go second. Figure I get a better chance of grabbing the objective end of game.
Eldar tried to steel initiative anyway just to be all trixy and not give up their strategy

TURN 1
BLACK TEMPLARS - Ron moves his bikes up and hid behind some terrain. He lost one biker to difficult terrain! Poor guy.
TURN 1
ELDAR - My Wave Serpent moved around the building and was able to take out one biker if I remember correctly. My guardians with the warlock Taleth were camped out inside the wave serpent. My farseer Tae Luith with his dire avengers were hidden off behind another building, biding their time.

TURN 2
BLACK TEMPLARS - Ron's Stormtalon comes roaring onto the board. He makes right for my Wave Serpent. The shots come raining down on it and he gets one penetrating hit which I luckily jink. Snap shots next turn :( His bikes move up the side of a building to get ready for a charge next round against my farseer and avengers was my guess.
TURN 2
ELDAR - On my turn I used the wave serpent against his flier and got some lucky hits. A weapon destroyed with my scatter laser (even though I was snap shooting!) and then I got a glancing hit when I shot off the serpent shield. So that got me first blood. My War Walker came in from reserves and took shots at his bikes and did nothing. All the shots went against his captain who was the closest. Should have thought that out better. Maybe the scouts would have been a better target for him.

TURN 3
BLACK TEMPLARS - On Ron's turn, he broke his captain off and went to the other side of a building about 18 inches away from my dire avengers and farseer. The bikes turned around and moved towards my war walker. They destroyed him with their meltas. He was a good diversion though since now they were at the back of the board and in a fire lane for my wave serpent.
ELDAR - Turn 3 for me, I popped out from behind the building and cast MindWwar on his captain and manager to get a wound on him and lower his WS and BS to 1. The avengers were also able to get one wound in on him. I then tried to jump back behind the building but rolled miserably even with fleet. I didn’t quite make it all the way. My wave serpent unloaded on his bikes and manager to take them all down! I got lucky here as well.

TURN 4
BLACK TEMPLARS - Ron pulled his captain back behind the building since he was pretty much useless for a round at BS and WS1. His scout snipers had a few shots on my dire avengers since we were out in the open from last turn and took one out.
ELDAR - On my turn I swung my wave serpent around and opened fire on the scouts. Managed to kill 3 and force a moral check. They failed and ran within an inch of the board! Almost got rid of them. My dire avengers and farseer jumped back behind the building.

TURN 5
BLACK TEMPLARS - Ron rallies his scouts and moved them towards the center of the board to try and get the objective. He also moved his captain over to be on the objective in the center to hold it. At this point the game is tied. I have 1 for first blood and Ron has 1 for holding the objective in the middle.
ELDAR - On my turn 5 I moved my wave serpent over and unloaded all my guardians and warlock. The warlock cast jinx on the captain to lower his armor save by 1. I then unload with 20 shuriken shots! I manage to get one through thanks to the jinx! The captain goes down. I then use battle focus to move the guardians close enough to secure the objective.

At this point, we call it a game. It was actually a lot closer than it seemed. If I hadn’t jinked that penetrating hit in the beginning and gotten lucky with my snapshots the game would have been very different. Ron played well and I look forward to playing him again.

This report is from the perspective of the Farseer Tae Luith and may vary greatly from the perspective of others involved

The battle with the Black Templars was over and the Eldar were victorious. One of Tae Luith's War Walkers was damaged but was still within his means of repairing. He climbed through the wreckage of the surrounding buildings. He could still feel the taint of Chaos from the building as he approached. The forces of Chaos had been here but were long gone. The Dire Avenger's fanned out into the building and quickly secured it. Tae Luith made his way to a terminal as one of his Guardian soldiers connected their decryption console to it. Within minutes, the Eldar were able to hack into the terminal and pull the data from it. The data pointed to a location in an abandoned town. He motioned to Taleth and together they left the building knowing where they needed to go next.

The next day, the small Eldar force arrived at the ruined town. The two Wave Serpents pulled into the outskirts and Tae Luith and his guard of Dire Avengers jumped out and moved into the cover of a ruined building. It looked like a battle had happened here in the past. There was still a burnt out husk of some Ork machine in the middle of the town next to an air defense battery. A faithful Wraithlord had infiltrated ahead of his forces and had warned them that another force of the Emperium was also searching the town. He could see three vehicles on the other side of the town with what looked like the markings of the Blood Ravens. One of the Dire Avengers leaned in and told Tae Luith that sensors had picked up a large force of Stormravens incoming. He scanned the city quickly, looking for any possible protection from the incoming air-force and his eyes trained in on the air defense battery. If it was still operational, his forces would be able to hold off the Emperium long enough to find whatever was hinted at in the files they found on the terminal the previous day.

Batrep: Guldtoof vs Grey Knight Librarian 500 pts

Guldtoof, feeling confident that he had linked up with Furst Mate Grimgutz had begun to scour the ruins of an old Imperial Outpost near the lush jungles of Dash'oh. He was looking for loot and wayward Feral to bring into his krew.

As he searched, he stumbled upon a Grey Knight taskforce, they looked to be searching for something in a mosolieum at the edge of the settlement. Taking no time Guldtoof ordered what boyz he had on hand to assault the distracted Silvuh Beakies.

He ordered his Gunnaz Matez to get their Kannon in a vantage point high up within the imperial ruins, no small feat for the puzzled runts. He ordered da Plank Walkaz and Da Boardin Boyz to charge headlong into the fray. He and his Press Gangaz would follow behind, at the request of Grimgutz.

The marine were kunning though, attempting to harness da power of da warp to redeploy. Howeve' Slurtbrainz da Warpead and Dokt'a Brow'n aboard da Blad’d Kween were able to force them to redeploy only meters from their initial location. However so wrapped up in his headlong assault, Guldtoof forgot to rouse his boyz with a Waaagh!! Or even a more sutle Huzzah!

The Librarian was quick to act though, calling in air support, and using the thundering Storm raven to gun down a handful of boyz and injure a few Press Gangaz, but the boyz held. He immediately teleported behind the Krew and began to lay rounds into the surprised orks. The stormraven then thundered off before the Gunnaz Matez could even load their chainshot.

Guldtoof swung on his heel, pointed and yelled, "Git dem flashy gitz!! Gitem now!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!" The boyz hooped, hollered and Waaagh!!! D at the prospect of a Propa fight, and charged headlong into the fray. They hacked and slashed at the beakies and their warp head. Boss Nob Runtcrusha took the challenge, which Guldtoof though resented in the moment, up until Runtcrushas head was caved in by a mighty swing of the terminators staff. But this did not stop Guldtoof, as he rushed in and laid the final blow into the Librarian, their eyes met before Guldtoof attempted to unload a Salvo from his shoota into the weakened Librarian. But the Marine had calculated his odds and blipped out of existence. Enraged, the Ork Kaptain spat and cussed as he turned toward the loot pile the boyz had uncovered. "Oi, Da next time we seez that git, 'e'z mine." "aye aye, boss" Grimgutz replied, but even he was cut down by the returning Stormraven, now hovering over the battlefield once more. There was another fusillade and more boyz dropped as they tore the junk pile and beakies apart for loot. Then there was a thunderous explosion. Da Gunnaz Matez had managed to fire off a single ball toward the hovering gunship, but the ship veered at the last minute, barely dodging the shot. But it was for not, as the front hatch opened revealing the Librarian was inside. He made a hand gesture, and the stormraven veered out of the air space.

Guldtoof had won, though he had not felt that he had. Be boiled and cursed. He looked down as Grimgutz slowly rose to his feet. "Oi, what I pay you fer! Youz spposed to know dem umies, gonna do zoggin tricksy stuff like dat!" "Kap'n, I fink we need ta find us some more boyz...but wez gonna need some zoom an boom ourselves..." "ya damn right you zoggin git! Tell dat Mek Brow'n dat I need somefink flyin soon, er we gonna get blowd ta bitz and gubbinz" " Aye Aye, Kap’n"

Game ended in concession by Nathan. Orks had Slay the warlord, Firstblood and the objective secured at the end of turn four, with enough left and in range to assault the Storm raven that turn.

This report is from the perspective of the Farseer Tae Luith and may vary greatly from the perspective of others involved

Tae Luith surveyed the ruined town. His forces had been successful in forcing the Blood Ravens back. It was a costly victory. One of his Wraithlords would no longer be fighting for the Eldar. Another Eldar lost... Spiritseer Elender would not be happy with this news. Tae Luith knew that she would not be away from the battlefield for much longer. He was in desperate need of her skills to communicate with the Eldar Wraiths. With the immediate threat out of the way, Tae Luith told Taleth to move his unit to the gun battery. Tae Luith and his Dire Avengers followed the information from the files to an abandoned building. In the building he could sense even greater Chaos taint. They were so close. The smell of rot was everywhere. Nurgle... He heard the gun batteries begin firing from outside. The trail of rot and rust could be seen heading West. They were close now. With the guardians giving him cover fire, Tae Luith took the rest of his forces out of the town westward. Soon, he would have his confrontation with the forces of Chaos.

The trail of rot and decay led to a destroyed Necron outpost. Tae Luith wasn't sure why minions of the Great Corruptor would be searching this Necron outpost but he truly didn't care. He didn't need a reason to remove the taint of Chaos from the world. On his way he had bolstered his forces. He was joined by a unit of Windrider Jetbikes and another Wraithlord. The damaged Warwalker had been repaired and also joined his forces once again. He had the upper-hand. They hadn't noticed his forces yet. He could make out a colossal form of a Defiler in one corner of field. On the opposite side was a unit of Terminators with their Chaos Lord leading them. Flanking them was a unit of Chaos Space Marines and in the center of the field were a unit of Cultists. They were moving with all due speed to the center of the Necron Outpost. He would not let them make it.

Eldar 1000 points

Wraithlord Brightlance, scatter laser, 2 flamers, ghostglaive

Windrider Jetbikes - 3 with twinlinked shuriken catapults, and 1 with shuriken cannon

Chaos Space Marines of Nurgle 1000 points (to the best of my recollection)
Chaos lord in terminator armor, Burning Brand, mark of nurgle, combi melta, gift of mutation, blight grenades
Chaos Terminators - 5 all with mark of nurgle and combi weapons and powerfists I think
Hellbrute with powerfist and reaper autocannon
Cultists 22 with 1 champion
Chaos Space Marines - 10 with an aspiring champion
Defiler with Reaper Autocannon and the big pie plate cannon

PRE BATTLE
The battle was played on roughly a normal board. Objective in the middle worth 3 points. Who holds it gets the points. Standard first blood, slay the warlord and line breaker. Each of us got to put 2 objectives in our deployment zone.
Both sides roll for warlord traits. Chaos got something that gave his lord fear. Chaos boon gave him Crusader. Eldar got the one that gives you +1 to steal initiate and +1 on reserve rolls. Useless for me this match.
Neither of us wanted night fighting so we skip it.
Eldar won roll off for first turn and choose to go first. Need to make sure I destroy his Defiler before his huge cannon reduces my forces to nothing.

The battle with the Nurgle Prince was a difficult one. While Tae Luith had won the day, he had lost another Wraithlord. The Wraithlord had done his best to take on the Daemon Prince but in the end could not defeat him. All the Eldar could do was route them. Tae Luith gathered the remaining forces and prepared to give persuit when his comm relay went off. Elender had been waylaid on her way to join up with Tae Luith. She was trapped in a abandoned city with a hoard of Orks coming down on her position. As much as he hated to stop his pursuit of Chaos, he couldn't leave Elender to die at the hands of the Orks. He diverted his forces to the abandoned city.

Eldar 1250 points

10 lootas

PRE BATTLE
The battle was played on roughly a normal board. Objective in the middle worth 3 points. Who holds it gets the points. Standard first blood, slay the warlord and line breaker. Each of us got to put 2 objectives in our deployment zone.
Both sides roll for warlord traits. I think Sam's orks got the +1 str to the boss. Eldar got the one that makes opponent take three pinning tests. For once that power was very useful!
Sam wanted night fighting so we rolled for it and got night fighting. We rolled off for first player and I got it. I deployed first. Sam then stole initiative! Oh no, here comes the ork hoard!

The battle was very close in the end. Before the battle I make his lootas, flash gitz and i think his nob squad that has the warboss and painboy attached to it roll pinning tests. Only flash gitz squad fails it. He scouts up his deftkoptas.

Turn 1 Ork - He moves up everything that can. He unloads lootas on one of my waves serpents and almost destroys it with glancing hits. Other wave serpent takes one glancing hit if I remember correctly. He assaults my wave serpent with the deftkoptas. I forgot you can't scout move and assault the first turn, oops. Wave serpent survives all the hits.

Turn 1 Eldar - Wraithlord takes down one deftkopta, the wave serpent takes down a second and the Dire Avengers jump out and take out the third. The warwalker takes shots at the lootas and takes a few down. The other wave serpent moved forward a little and unloads the wraithguard. I think this was a mistake. I should have tried to re-position them and get the charge off on him in turn 2. I didn't realize just how nasty 20 orks on a charge can be, even against toughness 6!

Turn 2 Orks - Declares Waaagh! Moves up and charges the Wraithlord on the right flank. Flash Gitz and the Nob blob continue to move forward. middle blob of orks moves forward. Can't remember if they failed a charge on the wraithguard or took shots at the guardians. His orks my left flank move up and decimate my wraithguard just leaving my spiritseer alive who runs away.

Turn 2 Eldar - Sprirtseer regroups. I move my jetbikes around and take down the left flank of orks with fire from the wave serpent and jetbikes and psychic powers. The guardians take down some of the center blob of orks. On the right flank, the dire avengers charge in to help out with the fight against the orks. I screwed up a rule here since I thought my warlock could cast protect on other units. I think the results would have been the same though since they still had fortune cast on them and the amount of orks they took out between the wraithlord and dire Avengers was enough to make it a double 1 to make moral check. Still, I need to get these rules correct :( Waveserpent on the right flank I think takes down some more lootas. I forget. They kept being shot up pretty much each turn.

Turn 3 Orks - They continue to move forward. He shoots up my jetbikes and takes them down to just my farseer. Here we weren't sure about IC when their unit is brought down to nothing if they still make a moral check. We rolled off on it but after further reading I think he should have made a check. He turn back into being an IC at the beginning of the next phase is what the book says. His Nobs continue to move forward.

Turn 3 Eldar - I use both wave serpents to take out the middle blob of orks I think. Things start getting mixed up in my head because I was getting really tired, haha. The guardians shoot up the Nobs.

Turn 4 Orks - He gets His Warboss into contact with the Dire Avengers and destroys them.

Turn 4 Eldar - Continue to kill Lootas down to 1 loota who is holding an objective on his side.

Turn 5 Orks - He move Flash Gitz squad to middle of the board to hold center objective. Warboss charges my farseer instead of the guardians and destroys him :( Last loota takes down my wave serpent that was going to hold one of my objectives. At this point the score is 6 points Orks (3 for center objective, 1 for his objectives, 1 for line breaker, and 1 for slay the warlord). Eldar have 1 point for First Blood...

Turn 5 Eldar - My warwalker moves up to take one of my objectives. My guardians jump down to get ready to take on the Warboss. My warlock blows himself up to make the warboss armor 1 worse haha. My wave serpent moves up to claim the center objective since he is a troop choice. The wave serpent takes the flash gitz squad down to 1 model. My guardians unload on the warboss and just barely take him down! So at this point the score is 2 points Orks (1 for his objective and 1 for slay the warlord). The Eldar are at 6 points (1 for first blood, 3 for the center objective, 1 for slay the warlord, and 1 for one of my objectives).

We roll to see if there is another turn and there is!

Turn 6 Orks - He charges my wave serpent and sits his Flash Gitz guy right on the objective in the center. He is not able to destroy my wave serpent though so the score is still the same.

Turn 6 Eldar - I thought I had to move my wave serpent back but looking in the rules, it actually says I can choose to not move and stay in close combat. I will need to remember this for the future. So thinking I need to get at least 2 inches away from him I move back. I then am outside the 3 inch range of the center objective I think. My guardians run over to grab my other objective. So at this point it is Orks 2 (1 for his objective and one for slay the warlord). Eldar are at 4 (1 first blood, 1 for slay the warlord, and 2 for having both my objectives).

We roll again to see if there is another turn and we don't get it, the game is over! It was a real close game in the end. If Sam had been able to destroy one of my wave serpents in the beginning, I think the game would have played out a great deal differently. I will never underestimate how fast an ork army can get across the board again. I need to try and make sure they can't get into assault on turn 2 with everything or it will truly be game over. What really saved me this game I think was forcing units to take pinning tests. It slowed him down enough and stopped his lootas i think twice from getting to shoot. If I was to do anything different, I think I would have tried to run away from his units a little in the beginning instead of trying to send my wraithguard down his throat. That was an epic fail. Over 200 points lost to a group of boyz haha. Leason learned, orks will tear you up if they get their charge off on you.

Tae Luith looked down at his wounds and tried to remember what happened. He was being tended to by Cynder, one of his young warlocks. All he could remember was trying to divert the leader of the Ork warband and then everything went black. Cynder told him it was very foolhardy of him to try and take on an Ork warboss on his own. His jetbike was destroyed in the battle and if not for the group of guardians nearby led by Taleth he would have parished. They rallied to their fallen leader and pulled him from the wreckage after releasing everything they had on the warboss. It came at a cost. Taleth had perished. Seeing his leader go down to the large Ork had forced him to the brink and when he tried to curse the Ork leader, the warp took him... So in trying to save Elender, Tae Luith had lost his most promising warlock to the warp. The Eldar had won the day by forcing back the Orks but at what cost. He pulled himself up off the bed. Now that he was re-united with Elender, it was time to move to sector 13. It was here that the data he had collected told him the remains of an ancient Nurgle weapon was located. It was scattered across the field. If he could collect all the pieces and destroy it, he could seriously hinder the forces of Chaos that had come to this planet seeking it.

Tae Luiths advance scouts had informed him that they had located 5 pieces but they were forced to retreat when a contingent of Grey Knights appeared from nowhere. Couldn't these humans see they were fighting for the same thing? These Grey Knights were some of the best Daemon Hunters in the universe... In another age, perhaps Tae Luith could have worked with them to remove the forces of Chaos. But there had been to much blood spilled on both sides for a truce to be written today. Tae Luith called in for more heavy support. Terminator armor and Dreadknights would not be something his forces would be able to handle easily.

PRE BATTLE
The battle was played on roughly a normal board. Objective in the middle worth 3 points. Who holds it gets the points. Standard first blood, slay the warlord and line breaker. Each of us got to put 2 objectives in our deployment zone.
Both sides roll for warlord traits. Gary got a power that allows him to deapstrike turn one and reroll scatter I think? He didn't end up using it. I got a power that allowed me to get +1 on stealing the initiative and + or -1 on reserve rolls. I kind of went out of order here and rolled warlord traits after choosing sides and choosing who goes first. Stupid of me. I don't think it would have changed things that much but might have influenced if I wanted to go first or not since I would have a better chance of stealing the initiative. Not a big deal. Will try and remember next time to do warlord traits before anything else.

We rolled off for first player and I got it. I deployed first. Gary then stole initiative! That's twice now in a row :(

This was another nail biter of a fight. Gary and I were the only two people who were left that were undefeated. This would be a very tough match! Gary is an awesome player and very tactical I found out as we played through the game. It was a very enjoyable game! As I said above, Gary stole the initiative so on to Grey Knights turn 1.

Turn 1 Grey Knight - Gary had deployed with his two objectives in his left flank. He had three dreadknights facing off against me with one in the center and one on either flank. His two dreadnoughts were on his right flank and his terminators, warlord and one other two dreadknights were mostly on his left flank. He immediately went to town on one of my wave serpents and wrecked it for first blood. He then put one hull point on my other wave serpent. I think he also took down 1 or 2 guardians.

Turn 1 Eldar - I had spread my force out across the board. I had my wave serpent with the wraith guard and spiritseer on my far right flank, the guardians were also over on that flank holding an objective. In the middle i had my wraith lord and fire prism. On my left flank was my other wave serpent with the Dire Avengers. My warlord and jet bikes were also on the left flank hiding behind terrain. I was so happy I didn't risk deploying them out in the open. I knew there was a 1 in 6 chance of Gary stealing initiative and couldn't risk losing them turn 1. In my turn 1, I moved my footslogging wraith guard up the right flank. My guardians jumped out of cover to try their best to take on that dreadknight. They couldn't sit back since he would just flame them all to death anyway. My Wraith lord moved up to shoot at the dreadknight on my left flank. The jet bikes and wave serpent also moved up to dump everything we had into it. Unfortunately, it was all for not. I was still not able to take down the far left dreadknight. The best I could do was charge my wraith lord into him and at least lock him up for a round. It was actually a bad move as you will see in following turns...

Turn 2 Grey Knights - He continues to move things up a little. He leaves his two terminator squads a little back. He gets them just within the 24 inch range of their guns to unload on my wraith guard. Combined fire from two dreadknights and the terminators on the wraith guard see their number go down by 1! Amazingly tough unit there. On his right flank, the Dreadnoughts charge into battle against my wraith lord, adding their might to the dreadknight. At this point the dreadknight is down to 1 wound before combat starts. I figure I am going to die so I might as well try and take a dreadnought down with me. I manage to immobilize one but am not able to destroy it! Those invul saves he was getting off in the psychic phase were really helping him out. So my wraithlord goes down :(

Turn 2 Eldar - I move my wraith guard up and unload my D-Sythe shots into his dreadknight. I get one 6! But Gary saves :( So close to instagibbing. My warwalker comes in from reserves and tries to take down a dreadnought but that armour 12 is hard to get through! The rest of my forces move up. The Dire Avengers jump out and everything unloads into the dreadknight and get it down to 1 wound. I think this is the turn my guardians try and take down the dreadknight in the middle but fail. Oh no... flames of death will be coming their way.

Turn 3 Grey Knights - On Gary's left flank, he takes down all but 1 of the wraith guard and the spritseer! Looks like they will keep him occupied for another round. In the middle, he sees the power of bladestorm and figures now is the time to take care of those guardians. They are knocked down to 1 guardian and the warlock. On his right flank I think he takes out some of the Dire Avengers and tries to takes out one of my jet bikes.

Turn 3 Eldar - On my right flank I try and shoot and then assault his dreadknight with my 1 remaining wraith guard and if I remember correctly fail and lose him to overwatch when I tried to charge in. In the middle I pulled my remaining guardians and warlock back to my objective. I know they are pretty much lost but I will make him work for them. On my left flank, my warwalker in the backfield takes down the first dreadknight! Yay for my warwalker. Now only two dreadnoughts on that side to deal with. I think I take one down with my wave serpent this round. I try and take down his last dreadnought with my dire avengers... only to find out after shooting that their weapons can't hurt them. Bladestorm only works on wounds, not hull... Rookie mistake, ack! This part gets a little muddled in my head. I think this is also where my farseer lost a power due to a perils of the warp roll.

Turn 4 Grey Knights - I think this turn he began moving his terminators towards the middle. He also moved his left dreadknight up and took out the spiritseer. The center dreadknight shunts across to try and take out my warlord. Some amazing rolls allow me to survive. His dreadnoughts shoot up my dire avengers and then charges them! They are chewed up pretty bad.

Turn 4 Eldar - The rest of my forces take down the second dreadknight that was trying to take down my warlord. The Fire prism finally sees his opening. The terminators are out of cover and moving for the center objective. He shoots the small pie plate on them and gets a direct hit. 4 out of 5 of them fail their invul save!

Turn 5 Grey Knights - Gary is moving in for the kill. He moves his left flank dreadknight up to kill off my 1 guardian and warlock sitting on the objective in my right flank. He moves his dreadnought back to claim the center objective. His warlord claims one objective in his corner and the squad of 1 terminator claims the other objective in his starting area. The other terminator squad begins running for the center of the board. The score at this point is 3 for the center objective, 1 for first blood, 1 for line breaker, and then three points for the three other objectives he holds. So Grey Knights 8 points. For the eldar I have 1 point for line breaker with my warwalker...

Turn 5 Eldar - My wave serpent moves up to take the center objective for 3 points. He also takes out the dreadnought. He hides behind a large piece of terrain, hoping it will be enough to protect him from the oncoming terminators. My jet bikes and farseer split up. My farseer turbo boosts to go take my left flank objective, my other jet bikes turbo boost to take the objective on my right flank that the dreadknight is sitting on. My fire prism takes a shot at the dreadknight I think but isn't able to do anything to it. So at this point the score is... Eldar, 3 points for center, 1 point for line breaker, two points for objectives. So 6 points eldar. Grey Knights are at 1 for first blood, 1 for line breaker, and 2 for his objectives. 4 points! So it was a gamble by the eldar. If the game ends, Eldar victory. If the game goes on, I am sure I would lose my jet bikes to the dreadknight. and he would move up to try and contest the center objective and most likely destroy my wave serpent with all those psycannon shots.

We roll to see if there is another turn and a 2 is rolled. The game is over. It was a last minute gamble to spread my forces out and hope for a 1 or a 2 on the roll for another turn. Soooo close. It really could have gone either way. Gary forgot about soulblaze on all his flamer shots too which I think would have influenced things a little. Might have lost my guardians earlier. All in all, a great game and one of the most exiting I have played recently. Good game Gary!
