I wasn't aware a majority of people didn't like the look of Vostroyans

To me they look awesome. Especially the look of their respirators and their lasguns

For the same reason people don't like any other aesthetic; it's all down to taste. I personally love the look of the Vostroyans, but others might think them to historical, too steampunk, too ornate, too red ect...

I'm sure the high cost of the models, and limited model range themselves has something to do with it. I have never seen them on a table top.

I like them a lot, specially their respirators, they look pretty good EXCEPT for their hats. God-Emperor, how I hate their hats.

I don't like the heads and silly hats. The face masks look slowed. The rest of the model is ok. I would have preferred they had released new Valhallans instead at the time.

*** haha they put "slowed" instead of the R word I actually used. This amuses me.

For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

I also hated the hats but loved the rest of the model. So....

Totally agree. Really cool looking but they need to get those sodden lumps of roadkill off of their heads. lol

We have yet to see a moment in history, when showing kozaks females ends in something good.

IMO it is not question of looks, but bad lazy sculptor now wanting or knowing how to do the hats. Which is odd considering other people did get them right in historical games.

I think the hats are spot on! Also, this being a science fantasy game, and not a histoical one, GW certainly has for Lao of a better term poetic license. Also, you're killing me homey, it's Cossacks, not kozaks. Also Cossack was simply a rank in the Russian imperial army, during the tsarist era. It wasn't what the army was called.

Cossack wasn't just a rank in the Russian army. They're their own separate cultural group.

s like someone scopped up roadkill laying in the rain for a week and slopped it onto ther heads.
If i ever got some, thats what i would paint it as too. One are two would be skunk, a racoon or two and tail deer, possibly even a calico cat or two....

I really like Vostroyans, I think the only problem is that they're a bit on the big side.

I can't find any photos at the moment, but I seem to recalling them standing as tall (or maybe even slightly taller) than Space Marines.

My GF wanted some toy soldiers to paint, and out of all the GW range, she picked Vostroyans.

Funny you say that. I had my girl pick which regiment I chose. She picked vostroyans.

Feth if I know. Vostroyans of all the IG Regiments actually look the most 40k, not to mention appear fairly original compared to the shamelessly boring and copypasted Colonial Marines or Rambo in SPESS.

Now if only they had an actual model line.

Too steampunk, too cliche Cossack, too 19th Century, too expensive, too many Russian regiments.

Not a huge fan. Like them more than DKoK though.

If you translit it directly from russian they're Kazaki (plural). And it was not exactly a rank in imperial army. They were the military-oriented inhabitants of Volnitsa (current Ukraine mostly) south-eastern territories bordering with Ottomans(former turkish empire) and Retch Pospolita (Poland+Lithunia). Basically, they were granted a form of autonomy in exchange for their service. Count it as battlebrothers allies

Should definitely read bout it. The original letter 'language' is epic. Even with some translational losses it's still something. Besides, it's historical!

Aesthetically there's very little I DO like about Vostroyans. Don't like the hats. Don't like the excessive detail. Don't like the steampunk.

Each to their own. It blows my mind there are people who don't like DKOK as DKOK, to me, are the most awesomest of IG, but there's some crazy people out there who don't like them. Different strokes for different folks.

We always called them kozaks or kazaks. And they were not just a rank, they were a whole "nation" in the end they were divided by us and Russians.

I science fantasy game doesn't have to precisely duplicate historicals. There's room for differences and creativity in a fantasy universe.

How can I not like them?

There are no girls.

Pretty much the only reason, although I wouldn't field them without a hat-swap.
