So I got in an argument about this. Lets say a large blast covers models on a 3 story ruin that are actually under the template. I cannot find in the rules anywhere that state that they do not. I know since 1st edition you always shoot at the level and can only hit the level but it was not written in this time.

Another argument Someone asked if they shot at the 10th floor and it scatters onto the ground under more models can it hit them instead?

GW has flip-flopped on this every few editions. In 3rd it hit multiple floors. In 5th and 6th it did not. Now it appears to hit multiple floors again because they removed all the 'levels of ruins' stuff that existed in 6th.

Currently yes blasts and templates hit all levels. That's because as stated above they removed the part that used to explicitly say they did not. That's rules as written. In a super friendly environment you may play house rules, but if you go to tournament expect that people will enforce the rules a written over rules as intended.

This has not at all been the case since 1st edition. Some editions have had rules for targeting specific levels, most haven't.

In this edition, you just hit everything under the marker (not 'template'... 'Template' in the rules refers to the teardrop shaped marker used for flamers and the like)

You don't target a specific level, so yes, wherever it scatters to, it hits whatever is under it.

I would imagine that this the same for template weapons with the Torrent special rule? Ie they can hit multiple floors?

Template weapons hit everything under the template.

How many different levels they are on is irrelevant.

Of course, you still need LOS in order to actually apply the wounds...

Note as well that with regular Template weapons, their ability to hit multiple floors in a ruin is limited somewhat by the requirement for the narrow end of the template to touch the firing model's base.

Cool, just wanted to confirm. That makes Torrent weapons extra delicious (since the template doesn't have to make physical contact with the firer).

*evil laughter ensues*
