(First of all, I think this is in the right thread. If this needs to go to the fantasy thread somewhere, could somebody please move it?)

Hello,

After looking online for cheap orc wolf-riders, I found a way to convert an orc cavalry figure and thought I'd share it for all the other cheap-skates out there. While I don't think this conversion looks as good as the GW figures, it's a whole lot cheaper at roughly $1.50 each, including international shipping (of course, I guess it all depends on where you live).

As this isn't a tutorial, there aren't any WIP pictures or step-by-step instructions.

To build the cavalry figure, you need to take pieces from two different manufacturers. For the rider you need the em4 'Orc with spear' and 'plastic shields'. If you don't already have cavalry bases, you can order them from em4 as well and save on shipping.
Naturally, if you buy bulk, the price per miniature gets cheaper.

The cheapest mount I could find for this guy is the'Horse Sprue Bundle' from Wargames Factory. This was on sale in February - $6 for 12 horses, and I think it still is. However, once I added shipping it added up to roughly $1 a horse.

What I found is that if you heat the legs of the em4 orc spearman, you can bend them so that he sits on the horse. Of course, some may find the idea of orcs riding horses instead of wolves/boars sort of unusual, but I don't think it looks too much out of place.

The result:

As far as I know this is the cheapest way (besides finding the random ebay deal) of buying orc cavalry online. Does anyone else have other cheap sources they use?

Looks cool, and I quite like the idea of Orcs riding horses. Maybe not for WFB or LotR, but in a generic fantasy setting I think it can work. I find it also calls Planet of the Apes to mind as well, which is cool.
