Need advice on what to get for me IG army next, I'm stumped. Currently I have
6x infantry squads
2x vet squads
4x russes
4x hvy weapons team squads
2x command squads
10x scions
2x comisars
8x rough riders
4x rattlings

Another command squad or two would be good. Getting two more would allow you to field three legal minimum sized platoons and a company command squad.

Chimeras also aren't a terrible idea, particularly for command squads and vets.

If you're going to use the Ratlings and Rough Riders, get a couple more of each (need at least 1 more to make the Ratlings legal sized). That said, they're not the most useful units in the world either a lot of the time.

Only four russes? No heavy artillery?

And you call yourself a Guard player...

I wouldn't shy away from picking up some Manticores, or Wyverns if that's your shtick. Both good models that look cool and fit with most themes and composition.

Well I don't really have the money for lots of vehicles, I have so much infantry because I pick up all the random bits and legs and such from senior guard players here. But I want two more russes and a manticore. My current job is high school, which sadly doesent pay lol

If you didn't plan on spending, then you picked the wrong army my man. This is probably the most expensive army in the game if you do it in plastics, let alone become psychotic like me and pick up 100 metal vostroyans!

Yeah, no kidding! My Cadians in plastic are not cheap because you need a lot of them to be effective with them.

Personally, I think you have enough Russes, but then, I'm a horde guy when it comes to Guard.

Firstly, if you have the codex available, I'd try putting what you've already got into an army list, and then posting on here/showing it to local players and getting some advice. This will allow you to see the weaknesses in there from a tactical standpoint, and we can then point you in the right direction to plug those gaps. To do it in rough form, you've got:

HQ:
Russ commander and additional Russ

Troops:

Vet Squad
Vet Squad

Platoon:
PCS
Infantry with heavy weapon
Infantry with heavy weapon

Platoon:
PCS
Infantry with Heavy weapon
Infantry with Heavy weapon

Any leftover infantry as Conscripts

Elites:

Scions
Ratlings

Heavy:
Other Russes, single or squardonned.



Looking at that, your weaknesses are:
Depending on your heavy/special weapons, you might be light on AT
You have no real anti-flier capabilty
You could use some Priests/Psykers for buffing.

What you want is a Vendetta or three. Right now, assuming you have appropriate melta and plasma guns for the infantry, you have plenty of infantry and LRBTs. What you don't have is a way to deliver scoring units across the table before you run out of time and the game ends. Since you're (presumably) taking at least two platoons you can put a pair of PCS in Vendettas and have some extra anti-tank, one of the best AA units in the game, and a pair of squads that you can drop anywhere on the table to claim an objective. If you get even more money you could buy a Valkyrie for one of the vet squads so they actually have a chance to deliver their melta/plasma before they die. In fact I wouldn't use the veterans at all until you buy some transports, they're just not worth it compared to regular meatshield platoons unless you have Chimeras/Valkyries.
