Subject: Allies for Imperial Knights?

Recently ordered 5x Imperial Knights, and I plan on getting a few of the Forge World ones as well eventually. But as of right now I only have access to 2 of the Knight variants. Also the point cost of the Knights means that at 1850 I can only run 5 of one type, no mixing. So if I take a list with 4 knights, I have options to which Knights those are, but I am left with a large point gap. So I want to look into using allies to fill that point gap. I plan on using about 350 points for the allies.
I know with having a main army of knights some might assume I'm looking for cheassy allies. But honestly I have been thinking of keeping it a bit more reasonable. Here is what I have been leaning towards.
-Chaos Marines
-Inquisition
-Space Marines
-Sisters
-Astra militarum
Allies that are a bit easier to accept. (though Orked up knights with ork allies would look awesome when converted). So what have people seen? What have people tried? I figure a simple HQ, some decent troops, and a support of some kind.

Depends on how much effort you want to put in for modelling the allies. Inquisition could be very cool but you probably want a strong theme tying them to the knights like Jokaero/servitors and assorted bannermen (acolytes) with a nobles modeled for the Inquisitor him/herself, they would be like the upper echelons of the noble house watching their army performing in the field. The quirkiness and varied model count would be pretty effective for that.
While it would be awesome to have a Warpsmith and a horde of cultists/honour guard of chaos space marines leading a traitor legion, the 'Come the Apocalypse' would mean he couldn't repair them or even get too close which is a shame. But chaosing up titans is awesome fun.

I wrote up quite a few thoughts o. Knights and the allies that can help hem the best. With a limited amount of practice, it seems that anti-air and ironically taking out tanks is the big challenge for knights. As well as a very limited number of models. With limiting yourself to 350 points I might look at Astra Militarum as he vendetta can help both with AA and AT. The blobs of cheap guardsmen can really help with a limited foot print and in erasing the targets your enemy has to deal with.
Space marines bring along the storm talon and Mortis dreadnoughts for that cost to help with both if those. Forge fathers on a bike with a conversion beamer can be neat. You get a turn or two of the long distance blast, then he is healing knights. Taking iron hand tactics can make him even better at that.

How would you configure a list with IK's and Necrons?

my planned 1800 ish was...
Paladin (warlord)
2 Errants
Necron Overlord with scythe and MSS maybe on CCB if points allow
2 Stormtek
2x5 warriors in night scythes
doom scythe
The doom scythe targets invisible deathstars as needed and the haywire/gauss combo will destroy vehicles that need to be put down quick. The NS work as AA
you can swap the doom scythe for a unit of deathmarks in another nightscythe, with a D&Dtek if required

300 points of allies wont make much difference tactically, especially not with marines.
You should take the opportunity to really model a themed small force following the rules for AM, Inq or pure Tempestus.
Tempestus is great because your obligatory HQ would actually be one of the better units you want from that force, and a great addition of deepstriking specialist weapons to surgically cut out dangerous enemy units.
Another thing you would want from allies is perhaps a psycher to at least try to counter some magic, so AM or Inq perhaps.
My advice is basicly to try to cover up some of the holes in the Knight list (psychic powers, deepstrike/infiltrate gunlines) while doing some uniqe modeling.

I'd say inquisition.
They have the potential to pack many small units and transports into the few points you have available, giving you some of the most effective scoring units for their points.
They also have the cheapest warp charge points in the game, which will help give you some psychic defense.
Psybolt ammo makes your cheap transports a fair threat to other light transports (a thing that knights aren't great at).
Servo skulls are always worth taking.
A heavy bolter psyback with 2 acolytes and a psyker costs a paltry 63 points. For this you get 3 Str 6 shots a turn, a warpcharge point, and 2 different units. For the space price space marines cannot even get a tac squad.
300 points of allies wont make much difference tactically
I often run 250 points of Inq allies with my knights, and believe the opposite to this.
Inquisitor - ML1, 2x servo skulls
Henchmen - 2xAcolyte, 1xPsyker - Razorback tl-HB & psybolt
Henchmen - 2xAcolyte, 1xPsyker - Razorback tl-HB & psybolt
Henchmen - 2xAcolyte, 1xPsyker - Razorback tl-HB & psybolt
Imo, creating 6 different targets and 4 warpcharge points for 250 points opens up a lot of tactical options for the numerically inferior Imperial Knights.
At 350 points I would certainly look into fortifications, mainly the vengeance weapon batteries with quad icarus to cover your anti air needs.

I am liking these ideas. Thanks for the help. =)
Right now the theme I'm running with is the other Nobles of the house and their guards. So modeling will be fun. I'm liking Big Blind Bill's idea for the 250 Inquisition. That leaves me with 100 points that I can use to buy a wall and some anti-air. Or beef up the inquisitor and his squads.

Actually, I kind of like the idea of Flying Circus Necron allies, especially if the Crescents are modeled as German Flying Saucers and the infantry are modeled as robotic Waffen Soldats with Lightning Guns. It'd be a good match up with Paladins painted like Tiger II's. <notes next model project>
