Hi all I’m getting back into Warhammer after a bit of a break, last time I played was with 5th edition codex and 6th edition BRB

I’m getting ready to take over for someone in an escalation league, I’ve never played with these guys before so I’m not sure what to expect.
Rules of the escalation are pretty simple;
All previous models and load outs must be present, but the squad distribution can be adjusted in between games.
Load outs can be added to but not subtracted from.
Anyway I was hoping to get some help with my rosters.

Last time I played my roster usually consisted of
HQ
1x Flyrant
1x Tervigon
Elite
3 Hive Guard
Troop
20x Devigaunts
20x Devigaunts
1x Tervigon
1x Tervigon
5x Warriors

So along that same line I was thinking…

250 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
Total Roster Cost: 249
: Combined Arms Detachment (23#, 249 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant
. . 11 Termagant Brood
. . 10 Termagant Brood

500 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
Total Roster Cost: 499
: Combined Arms Detachment (29#, 499 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2 + Wings + Electroshock Grubs)
. . 15 Termagant Brood Devourer x15
. . 11 Termagant Brood Devourer x10
. . 1 Hive Guard

1000 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
Total Roster Cost: 1000
: Combined Arms Detachment (49#, 1000 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant,
. . 1 Tervigon,
. . 2 Hive Guard Brood,
. . 20 Termagant Brood Devourer x20
. . 20 Termagant Brood Devourer x20
. . 4 Tyranid Warrior Brood,

1500 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
Total Roster Cost: 1500

Troops: Tyranid Warrior Brood (73#, 1500 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant, (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2 + Wings + Electroshock Grubs)
. . 1 Tervigon, (Adrenal Glands + Electroshock Grubs)
. . 2 Hive Guard Brood
. . 1 Venomthrope,
. . 1 Venomthrope,
. . 30 Termagant Brood Devourer x30
. . 30 Termagant Brood Devourer x30
. . 1 Tervigon (Adrenal Glands)
. . 5 Tyranid Warrior Brood

Those look pretty good! Mostly minor nit picks...You should look to put Thorax Hive on everyone that can take one. I always want Electro-bugs, though depending on your "meta" you may get good value from Shreder Beetles as well.

At low point games the Tervigon is much more valuable, though the lowest point valid battle forged is going to run 275. But the sooner you add one the better it will do. At high point levels Tervigon does a whole lot less well though.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

Thanks for the tips, I had to submit my roster before I saw your post though so my 500 point is locked in.
Noticed I didn't have a synapse to run with the gaunts so ended up with this for the 500

Spoiler:

500 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster

: Combined Arms Detachment (29#, 498 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant, 240 pts (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2; Warlord; Wings; Electroshock Grubs)
. . 1 Zoanthrope, 50 pts
. . 11 Termagant Brood, 88 pts (Devourer x11)
. . 15 Termagant Brood, 120 pts (Devourer x15)
. . 1 Combined Arms Detachment, 0 pts

Thinking of changing things up a bit because I noticed the lack of brood progenitor on the Tervigons now, which means no sharing adrenal glands or toxin sacs

Spoiler:
1000 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
: Combined Arms Detachment (45#, 1000 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant, 240 pts (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2; Warlord; Wings; Electroshock Grubs)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant, 195 pts (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2)
. . 2 Zoanthrope Brood, 100 pts
. . 15 Termagant Brood, 120 pts (Devourer x15)
. . 20 Termagant Brood, 160 pts (Devourer x20)
. . 3 Tyranid Warrior Brood, 105 pts (Deathspitter x3)
. . 2 Biovore Brood, 80 pts
. . 1 Combined Arms Detachment, 0 pts

Spoiler:
1500 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
: Combined Arms Detachment (72#, 1390 pts)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant, 240 pts (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2; Warlord; Wings; Electroshock Grubs)
. . 1 Hive Tyrant, 230 pts (TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2; Wings)
. . 1 Venomthrope, 45 pts
. . 1 Venomthrope, 45 pts
. . 3 Zoanthrope Brood, 150 pts
. . 28 Termagant Brood, 220 pts (Devourer x27)
. . 30 Termagant Brood, 240 pts Devourer x30)
. . 4 Tyranid Warrior Brood, 140 pts (Deathspitter x4)
. . 2 Biovore Brood, 80. . 1 Combined Arms Detachment, 0 pts

Elite: Hive Guard Brood (2#, 110 pts)
. . 2 Hive Guard Brood, 110 pts

At 1000 I'd drop either the Zoas or the Warriors to add a Heavy Venom Cannon and a Tyrant Guard. Walking Tyrants can't afford to be unprotected but I do love walking Tyrants...

The more competitive option would be the new Tyrannocyte and convert the Tyrant into a Carnifex, same loadout. Get the flyer around where you want the Carni to come in at, drop pod in with the five VCs and kill things close up. Gives you a few more points to spend on the Warriors as well if you ditch the Zoas. 45pts can add a Venomthrope or another Warrior with cannon of some kind.

Well I can drop one of the Zoas but have to have one due to escalation rules.

I'm not seeing these Tyrannocytes nor the drop pods, are they in a WD?

I was thinking the same about the walking tyrant, I could drop a zoa and give him wings back... but that would leave me 15 points short, two more gaunts?

Yes, the Tyrannocyte is the new Tyranid Drop Pod. Rules are in WD 41 or http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/621735.page.

Yep. It floats around but can only do Movement Phase things and Consolidate. That entry there is incorrect. It CAN consolidate and can NOT sweeping advance.

Somewhere in that thread they mentioned that the full rules for that and the other new models would be added to the Tyranid FAQ.
