Hey guys I'm starting my own space marine chapter and I'd like some tips on how to create the lore for my chapter. I've decided on the colors let me know what you think of the colored in marine. Thinking about naming them The Diamondbacks. What I do know is their gene seed will come from the Iron Hands.

Some things to take into account for best results:

Your chapter is not one of the missing legions. They're gone.

Don't worry about the Chapter Tactics you want to use on the tabletop. Those are just arbitrary rules invented 25 years into the game's life. They are meaningless. Be an Ultramarines successor and use Iron Hands CT if you want. If somebody gives you a hard time, instruct them on the finer details of self-fornication.

Your chapter doesn't have a special relationship with the AdMech to get cool toys. This is another ridiculously overdone bit.

Your Chapter doesn't have 6000 guys like the Black Templars (did?) and get away with it because reasons.

Don't use the Chapter Generator from the Deathwatch RPG. It's silly.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I'm from the future. The future of space

I like the colour scheme. Definitely consider putting a bright white decal/water slide transfer on some part of them to break up the dirty/earthy look they'll end up with. Whether it's a tactical/assault/devastator designation or a leg decal or something else.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Also, there's a program on Bolter and Chainsword that was posted in a thread a while back that takes chapter generation to a whole new level. Allows you randomize armor and stuff so you can come up with cool looking HQ designs to plant for when building your units.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I had the pleasure of being a big DIY chapter guy back when the Index Astartes series started in White Dwarf. I'd highly recommend seeing if you can find a copy of the compilations (Index Astartes, IA 2 and IA 3) on a used book site or something. Or find back issues of the WDs they were in.
