So I am already fond of the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures game, but I have been and always will be more of a Trekkie. As I understand it, the two game systems are practically identical, so I don't imagine that it would be that difficult to get into. I do have some questions though.

Is there a resource like this but for STAW? I did some preliminary searching, but came up blank. It would be helpful in knowing what ships I'd need/want to get what cards/upgrades/whatever.

I gave the rules a read over, but I'm still confused by the squad building in this game. Unless otherwise specifically restricted (like Ablative Generator), I could have any ship with any captain and upgrades (presuming the ship can take said upgrades to begin with)? What are common points for playing at? I see some lists limited to 90 points.

What are the OP3 or whatever I see in this forum referring to? How does that affect playing the game?

I'm sure I'll have more, but that's it for now!

There is a fine line between genius and insanity and I colored it in with crayon.

The op3 is a event with rules from wizz kid, have abit of a story with them.

I had found an attack wing wiki page that had details on cards and ships.

With the squad building you can take any ship with any upgrades, but most seem to play abit of faction pure, which I personally prefer.

http://www.dracossoftware.com/STAWHome.html this and Spacedock tell you which ship a given card came with

Games are usually 100 points but OPs of late have been bring 90 and blind buy 30. They'll be upping the limit to 120 before long.
Yes you CAN mix and match but it's better played as faction pure
