Does anyone else use their thumbnail as a quick palette to mix colors/ fix your brush on?

Sadly, my thumbs are too small I think :(

I do "fix" my brush on my left hand though. I always check to see if there's too much paint on my brush, and if so, my left hand is the lucky recipient.

i use the skin just behind my thumbnail...
i draw my brush across it so smooth out the paint blob on the tip of the brush, and mix the water in...
i dip the brush in the paint, then in a drop of water, then smooth it on my thumb...
it's so ingrained now, it's almost an unconscious motion...

it is pretty funny to walk around in the morning, because there is always a different spot of color on my thumb...
it's also funny to see what a small swatch of color it is, even after a marathon session of painting...
just goes to show what tiny brushes i paint with...

i never thought about using the actual nail...
i don't think i would like the hard surface as much as i do the softer skin to smooth the brush tip...

cheers

I tend to use the back of my leg, simply cause of my posture when I paint, but my thumbnail gets occasional use.

At least I now know I'm not alone in doing it.

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

Hmm I've never done that.. I always use paper sheets as a pallet and it seconds as a way to balance the amount of paint on my brush. I use tissues to prepare for dry brushing. Never even thought of using my thumbnail. I think I need to try it though... it sounds fun to do.

* haha back of your leg... wonder how that would work for me.

I usually prep my drybrush on a paper towel and test it on some spare sprue pieces. Using the thumbnail is pretty fun.

I use my left thumbnail as a way to check paint consistency on something hard. That means my left thumbnail is usually multicoloured.

The left thumb and back of my hand gets the same treatment while airbrushing.
