Does anybody use these, and if you do, do they perform well and do you like them? The models look pretty cool and the general idea of them seems nice, but the firing modes rules seems like quite a hindrance. Still, for their points and statline, I think they could make a decent and fluffy little defense formation. I'd like to hear your thoughts on these little guys.

I use them in my IG army. I run 3 with heavy bolters.

I love what you get for such a small amount of points. I decided a while back to fill the last of my roster with those beautiful forgeworld models and I've never looked back. They suit my theme perfectly to boot.

I think the reasons why it seems like they're not used are -
1. They take up a Heavy Support slot. (Which most IG armies fill up with Arty or Tanks)
2. Whilst they are cheap, they aren't exactly reliable and don't do THAT much

I use them personally to babysit my Fortress and my Arty. With the 360 degree fire to help dissuade deepstrikers etc. Tbh though, they'd be best in Cities of death where you can set up firing lanes and have them block whole streets.

Ofc, an intelligent opponent can negate most of their bonuses (sending a distraction unit closer to them to eat their automated fire) or outrange/ approach from blind sides depending on the firing mode.

I wouldn't recommend going Camo Nets or Lascannons though. You'd be investing too many points in an unreliable (albeit fun and fluffy) unit. Go Heavy Bolters and any distraction/ kills at all is a bonus for only 45 points.

Yeah I was thinking they'd be great in Cities of Death, although the 360 degree firing arc for deepstrike protection is also an excellent idea. I was thinking of running some with an Earthshaker battery so that way I can have something to sort of babysit them with. Glad to hear you like them and get some use out of them.

They're a good unit if and only if you have FOC slots available. They're dirt cheap and a reasonably tough scoring unit that can do a bit of shooting, but you're spending a precious heavy support slot on a 45-point unit (75 if you buy LCs). This is great in low-point games or if you're using multiple FOCs (or unbound) since you're likely to have plenty of slots available, but in a "conventional" single-FOC game you've probably got better things to do with that slot.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

They are super useful for keeping an AirCav type army on the board turn 1. Put a few behind an ADL with a comms relay and you will be very hard to remove from the board.

They are also not a bad value for their firepower. The TL HB are pretty decent anti infantry and the TL LC can be pretty decent AA.

IMO though most lists benefit much more from a unit of rapier las destroyer arrays or thudd guns which deal out better damage, let you pick targets, and are only a bit more in pts. Funny thing is the BS2 rapier in the heretics list in IA12 is only 20 pts.
