If an Ork player is trying to be as competitive and TAC as he can, what is the best type of army? Which army type would probably do the best in tournaments?

If "competitive" means some variation of Maelstrom missions, then foot-sloggers just put too many bodies on the table for many opponents to remove from objectives.

I haven't been to a tourney... But I just meant if it was a tournament mission...

The only two valid options for this poll are "choppy" and "shooty".

Well as some of the Ork veterans have told me, you have to stick to a theme or else you'll lose badly. Even then, you're likely to be hard countered.

Speed Freeks do well against SerpentSpam but struggles against GravStar.

Footsloggers have the bodies to deal with GravStar but struggles against MechDar.

I voted Speed Freeks as the Warboss on Bike w/ PK, Da Lucky Stikk and Attack Squig is pretty fantastic.

Just make sure you pick a theme and stick with it, fer da WAAAAGH!!!!!

All orks are naturally choppy

For 'every Ork I've seen whose choppy, I've seen another that's shooty.

But to answer your question, I prefer Speed Freaks and other Ork lists that get into the fray quickly.

I have always found I deeply enjoy foot slogging armies. Why? I have no idea. I'm weird in the fact that I have NO issues moving large amounts of models. I find it actually kind of therapeutic, though for some of my opponents, it might be nerve wracking. But...that's Orks for you >

Speed Freaks is also boatloads of fun. Something oddly satisfying in just moving kopters, bikers and trukks halfway up the board in a turn or two is all in good fun as well.

In terms of tournaments? Probably Speed Freaks due to the speed they can get around, better armor overall, and the dakka. But, in general, Orks do poor in tournaments, sooo...might be wasting your money to enter only to lose to Min/Maxed armies that can do it far better than us.

I wasn't considering entering one... Just wanted to know what people thought was the best. And if anyone else wants to enter one...

Personally, I enjoy my two wierd-ass lists. Either Snikrot formation + Battlewagon rush-down (and a few trukks), or Snikrot formation + a big blob of bikers, and then some wagons / trukks hauling more boyz along.

Eventually I hope to be able both the Snikrot -and- the Zagstruk (sp) formation at once. When things go well, 100 Stormboyz drop down right infront of the enemy and 60 Kommandos pop out right behind them. Brutality ensues.

The few timed events I did showed me that if I want points I need someone to help me move models if I'm a tide. You want fewer models in these events. You need fewer models and the ideal way to do this is speed. Orkz can't do few models in mech cause everyone is bringinger anti vehicle for knights and we just make them efficient. We can be mobile and speed freaks do that.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

I expect a full battle report once you have the models for this and you try it out. :p

I run footsloggas and love it. I find my gameplay with them quite tactical with distractions over bauble wraps over tarpits. Some opponents tell that they feel no matter what they do - it's either an overkill or wasted effort. Just like it should be vs the greenskins!
And even so, most games are quite close and fun to play for both.

As for the competitive meta, stick to the theme. Luckily, you can't generate an uber-list with orkses and steamroll everything. The toughest lists are speedfreaks and footsloggas. Walker wall would have been fearsome within the 5-th ed ruleset but not now. It could potentially counter some lists but most tournament armies don't give a damn about a wall of slow walkers.

Btw, why just shooty? You got to be shooty a bit even if you're mostly choppy and choppy a bit if you're mostly shooty. There's never enough dakka and choppin' going around.

I have changed shooty to Mechanized... Sorry to anyone who voted shooty and now it's changed... I was trying to keep to the 3 sample lists given in the old dex

That's...completely different stuff.

Btw ain't speed freaks mechanized? When people tell: "speed freaks" they usually mean lots of trucks, wagonz and bikes with other stuff like koptas or buggies.

Or you mean mechanised = trucks and wagons with absolutely no bikers and speed freaks = bikers and stormboyz with absolutely no trucks and wagons.

I have a thousand point list that's been undefeated since the new codex came out. Maybe 10-12 games. It's nothing totally hard, it just includes my favorite units. Some Stormboyz with Zagstruk, a few trukk boys, buggies for screening, and a Warboss in mega armour leading a group of nobs with a PB and big choppaz.

Ultimately the speed at which I can cross the table, and the mobility of the trukks and stormboyz is able to control the flow of battle so I am always able to dictate when the fighting occurs. The meta of my group is very defensively oriented, and I'm usually not one to play the objective that hard, I just like to throw everything I have at the enemy and try my best to table them.

A true Ork tactic!

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

SPEED FREEKS! We'z da fastest to da fight!

Personally I view any Ork army as a tidal wave. When does the main bulk of your forces want to hit is your "wave point." A good Speed Freeks list is a turn 2 wave, a green tide is turn 3. So optimally, your "distractin' helpers" want to be there doing their thang on the turn your wave hits.

Turn two strikers: Outflanking Buggies, Burna Commandos, Burna Boyz Trukk or wagon, nob/meganob bomb, all manner of Planes, etc.

Turn Three strikers: Walkers, CC Kommandos, Stormboyz, footslogging support.

And long ranged fire support works for either style. Because I tend to favor turn 2 strike units, I use Speed Freeks.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
