Aye, that's right. P&S has two combat stats, one for hand to hand and one for ranged attacks.
HC has four: two for hand to hand (clash and sustained, the former for the first round of combat and the latter for subsequent rounds) and two for short-range and long-range shots.
The short-range stat also affects combat support. In
HC, supporting units provide extra attacks, according to that stat, and have to be in contact with the supported unit. In P&S, supporting units just provide a set bonus to combat resolution, but only have to be within 3" of the supported unit.
