Are the 2 game systems compatible with each other? I really want my Spanish Tercio to face off against some barbaric germanic tribes!

Somewhere in south-central England.

I have no idea. However early Renaissance overlaps with Aztec and Inca which are often also found in Ancients rules, so there is no particular reason why not.

The original WRG Ancients and also Renaissance were basically compatible. Field of Glory and FoG Renaissance are basically compatible.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The same thing happens quite a bit with Samurai armies, I've noticed.

I'd definitely give it a try. You might have to tweak some rules/stats, but that's probably it. These things are part of why I like historicals. You can try pretty much anything out

I think they use slightly different mechanics for combat IIRC.

Aye, that's right. P&S has two combat stats, one for hand to hand and one for ranged attacks. HC has four: two for hand to hand (clash and sustained, the former for the first round of combat and the latter for subsequent rounds) and two for short-range and long-range shots.
The short-range stat also affects combat support. In HC, supporting units provide extra attacks, according to that stat, and have to be in contact with the supported unit. In P&S, supporting units just provide a set bonus to combat resolution, but only have to be within 3" of the supported unit.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.
