After I got some Inquisition models as part of a bigger ebay buy I got the digital codex to ally them to my new Grey Knights. I noticed that there are not many models available. I'm okay with that since I love converting and everyone in my group is very laid-back about counts-as or proxies.
But I asked myself what do you guys use for the different units? What do you use as a base for your conversion?
I came up with the following ideas:
- use those Cultists without chaos marks as those without special armor. Or use Cadian guards. Both of those can easily be modded to have Bolters or something else.
- Use Space Marines as Acolytes with Power Armour and green stuff some capes on them or use DA as base for it
Can anyone tell me what Carapace Armour is? Must be some IG thing and I never played them. What would be models that got that armour?
Thanks!
Edit: oh, and for the players with some more tournament experience, what is used and accepted for Inquisition in tournaments?

Carapace is Stormtrooper/SM Scout armor.

If you look at any of the models shown in Blanchitsu (the John Blanche column in WD) they're often based on those Dark Vengeance cultists. There are a lot of freaky inquisitorial warbands, and if you just Google "blanchitsu" you'll find a lot of neat models that fit that aesthetic. They make great bases for generally human models, although you can get really freaky and out of control, which is a good thing.
I wouldn't use Space Marines as acolytes in power armor since they're so recognizable as is. Maybe if you got some of the older Marine models from Rogue Trader or something since they're smaller, that could work.
Carapace armor is heavier than flak armor but not as heavy as power armor. As for models that have it, the old metal kasrkin and stormtrooper models had it, as do the current plastic Tempestus Scions. Scions would make great acolytes and Inquisitorial types, what with their intricate detailing and cool gasmask look.

For a second I thought you were talking about Inquisitor models, I was about to say "nice find!" As thenoobbomb and Brother SRM said, carapace is generally shown as multiple armor plates with some non-armored areas. Think Kasrkin, Storm Troopers, Tau Fire Warriors, or Space Marine scouts. Often, people add a number of makeshift armor plates onto a model to distinguish flak armor from carapace armor. It's usually not too much of a problem distinguishing both. EDIT: Inquisitor warbands have never unfortunately work in a nicely-integrated way I believe GW hoped for. Typically, henchmen are selected somewhat like Storm Troopers in razorbacks, equipped with as much long-range firepower as possible. Because they're so cheap, people buy as many squads as possible. As far as cool teams joined up with the Inquisitor...well, command squad-type units have never been all that great.

Maybe MT Scions with space marine power packs thrown on? Probably some greenstuff or some other molding putty to bulk them up.

The best Acolyte in Power Armor I've seen is a Space Marine model with a cape attached, but with a Cadian helmeted head, all painted in a nice red. It actually made the model pop as very human. I will be using SM Scouts as my Carapace armor, just cause Scions are so expensive. Or, if I'm lucky, I'll find some old Karskin models on eBay.

I've used all sorts for my Inqusition stuff. Here's the list of the easily doable stuff:
Inquisitor in TDA: Chaos Termy Lord with some GK and DA bits
Inq in PA: Death Co torso and legs, SM arms, power sword and Storm Shield
Inq in Carapace Armour: WFB Empire (arms, sword, head) and Dark Elf parts (legs, torso, cape)
BP/CCW Acolytes: Skaven with DE Pistols and some modification to the armour
Death Cult Assassains: DE Wyches and Dark Elf Corsairs mashed together
Crusaders: WFB Empire Halberdiers with glowy weapons and some slight modification
Ad-mech counts-as Jokaero/Servitors: High Elves and a ton of Green Stuff.
Basically, any kit can be used really, the Inquisition is a great army to indulge your creativity and imagination.

Carapace armor is storm-trooper type armor (between joe-guard armor and power armor).
Really old trooper: "Kaskrin":
"Astra Tempestus":
An OK green-stuff conversion:
Yes, Chaos cultists, IG/ AM figures and Sisters of Battle are a good basis for characterful models.
