Hi, so this is my first outing into the Fantasy side of GW. I've come up with a list that will be used against WoC, Empire and Daemons of Chaos (local gaming group). I've mostly picked units that i like (special choices are the main ones), and im not looking for a win at all costs army. feedback is appreciated.

High Elves 1996pts

Lords
Archmage-265pts
High Magic, Level 4, Talisman of Preservation

Heroes
Mage-145pts
High Magic, Level 2, Dispel Scroll

Noble-153pts
Battle Standard Bearer, Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Banner of the World Dragon

Core
30 Lothern Sea Guard-390pts
Full Command, Shields

6 Ellyrian Reavers-114pts
Bows

Arhmage and BSB join Lothern Sea Guard, lvl2 mage joins white lions (or maybe phoenix guard? what's better?)

Definitely you want the Book of Hoeth on that lvl 4. I also recommend either shadows, or life on your level 4. Its nice with shadows to drop enemy toughness and shoot them to death with the seaguard. Also you can mind razor which is awesome with elves and ASF.

The BotWD should be on a special unit NOT the BSB. If its on him he cant take magic items and get targeted and killed. I think you should give him the armor of destiny and a great weapon.

YMMV but in my opinion the skycutter is poo. I would drop it and add more bodies to the white lions, where you should have the BotWD.

I would love to see more reavers or another eagle for redirect/warmachine hunting as well.

I'm thinking the noble is not really needed? So my reasoning for this version is larger special units so they survive for longer/can take some hits before they lose some attacks. Upgrades on the Great Eagle to give it a bit more oomph/war machine hunting capability

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

Swap the sea guard for archers. They're really a bad choice for core. You pay more for the unit to get less out of it.

As for the Noble, the BSB is number 1 on the things to add to the army. Moreso than the general. I say go with the enchanted shield talisman of endurance and ring of fury. I don't have the helf book on me so I can't confirm if that's within the allowance. But the best builds for BSBs generally involve all round survivability. I go for Armour of Destiny, Barded steed, shield and a lance. He then chills in one of the many units of reavers that make my core. (That's a Dark Elf throwback, I don't recommend it. It's really bad.)

You don't need the upgrades on the eagle, Just get a second eagle.

Losing the noble is a risk because you lose the ability to re-roll failed leadership checks... on elves this isn;t as horrible as other armies due to high leadership (9 - 10 on heroes), but there have been times when my dice have betrayed me and the re-roll is a nice insurance policy. I'd keep the BSB.

As far as upgrading the eagle, I'd keep him cheap and cheerful... Eagles aren't awesome fighting on their own and, at least in my army, often get sacrificed for the greater good. If it comes to that, losing fewer pts is better.

I'd keep the scroll caddy a level 1 and use those points for an extra couple of bodies for your special choices.

I would include a Flamespyre in there as it's really cool when you fly over a unit and it take D6 strenghth 4 hits. Also it's looks incredible awesome! To get it in I would take out the White Lions or the Phoenix Guard as it's probably worth it. I would upgrade one of your Sisters Of Avelorn to a High Sister. Hope this helps

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was thinking, you don't HAVE to have a magic banner as a BSB in order to recieve the +1 combat resolution do you? If not, then I could drop the BotWD, get myself another Great Eagle, so I can then remove the Reavers for some Archers or something like that?

Or kit out the Noble for combat better

The BSB is good in the fact that it lets you reroll failed LD tests within 12 inches and no I don't think you have to. I would keep the Reavers as they have the Fast Cavalry rule and they are really effective at shooting and close combat. Great Eagles are pretty cool, so I'd probably take another to accompany the other one (therefore making sure it doesn't die earlier on and because you get more attacks and wounds in that unit, so that's the one I'd take. Hope this helps

If you are taking multiple Eagles then make sure they are seperate. I'm unsure if they even can be taken as a unit in multiples, but even if they could it's the worse option. Also don't nother with upgrades on either.

You don't need a magic banner on a bsb to claim his +1 for combat res. a couple of decent builds are;
Sword of might, shield of the Merewyrm, dragon armour.
Armour of caledor, great weapon/halberd.
Dragon armour, Ring of Fury, enchanted shield and a magic weapon.

High magic is a poor choice for a lvl 4. I'd take shadow for this list as you have an abundance of S3/4.

Personally I'd drop the Skycutter for more bodies in the Lions. also Id be finding a way to get book of Hoeth on the Lvl 4.

Hope this helps!
