Subject: conversion tips for a imperial knight into the Forgeworld model series/general price discussion

afternoon Guys,
does anyone have some conversions they've done (or have seen) on the imperial knight to represent the forgeworld models?
also are the forgeworld models really worth the $300AUD price tag? I personally just can't justify it

Lothlorien: 3500pts
Rohan: 1500pts
Serpent: 2000pts

To be honest., The extra leg joints on some of them are bad (for us gamers not for FW of course lol) because it makes it harder to convert.
I have not done so but I was talking with a buddy the other day about an idea and he seemed to like it....
Anyway, the idea was to make a "waist' to compensate for the extra height that FW adds on with leg joints. I think that would be the way to go in terms of doing it. Might even be possible to make the waist heightener removable to switch back and forth . I dunno.
I'd like to see different ideas myself.

I've found the shins/lower legs to be easy to lengthen, adding the extra height. The Lance is pretty easy to build, as the Lance can be modded from the Battle Cannon, while the Gauntlet Ion Shield can be modded from the Chainsword (or vis versa). The Castigator is even easier, with simply replacing the Chainsword with a DreadKnight Great Sword, and mounting twin Assault Cannon barrels in place of the Battle Cannon barrel.
The Acheron is easier to do after you've built one of the others, as you will now has a spare Chainsword to duel-mount under a set of Heavy Bolters, while the flamer can be done by duel-mounting the spare Meltas as a quad-barrel Flamer.
The Styrix is an awesome model to convert, by simply using a Tau tank turret sprue for the weapons.
For a Megaera, I'd advise re-thinking why you'd even want such a bad unit. If you still want one, you can convert one out of Ork weapon sprues from a Battle Wagon kit. Just de-Orkify the pieces.

well see I was just going to use the normal knight and lengthen the shin and thigh sections for the little extra height then build out the flamer etc. would the lack of height really be an issue if I didn't do it?

Just bought my first FW model, a Questoris Knight Magaera and I have to say, while it is reeeeally annoyingly expensive you at least get very high quality resin for it. I was afraid since I only knew failcast from GW, but the FW resin is a completely different story.
So I am almost prepared to pay the money for a Castigator Knight, but (standard reaction to FW prices) it's REALLY a chunk of money...

Technically, the height is represented by the movement rules specific to those Knights, with shorter a knights not having the extra run distance. Functionally, though, no, you never actually need the height; there are no modeling for advantage rules in 7th (which in this case would be not modeling for a disadvantage).

A lot of FW models are truly exquisite, especially their big stompy robots.
I have not seen a FW Knight in person, but the pictures I've seen seem to be awesome. I would say its well worth the money. Sure, you probably get more bang for your buck with a full size Titan, but those aren't exactly welcome everywhere and they're not exactly going to fit into a 1500-1850 tournament list.
