In the fluff, I believe Catachans are known for their love of flamers and demo charges, as well as general close-quarter fighting.
I was just wondering if the other regiments (Cadians, Death Korps, Vostroyans etc.) favour certain weapons too? If so, what are they?

I think Only War has a Regimental Weapon of sorts with their regiment selection/custom regiment rules.
Can't remember what they are, but I know they're out there.

The 4ed Imperial Guard Codex (when you could choose doctrines) laid out the preferred weapons of each Regiment next to its entry.
I think you were bang on with the Catachans, and if I'm not mistaken the Cadians preferred special was the Grenade Launcher and heavy was the Autocannon. I cannot recall the others off the top of my head..

Sorry, one other thing guys - do any of the regiments favour different unit choices? So, are any of them more likely to use Sentinels, forgo transports, use a specific type of Leman Russ etc.?
It seems a little ironic that they like meltas, since I don't think a single Vostroyan model has one.

I dont think its plasma and melta for them according to the book.
From memory some regiments in the book for 4th edition had one favoured special weapon, one favoured heavy weapon, and then a list of doctrines which included light infantry or mechanized, or chem enhailers or sentinals or priests etc.
If I remember I may look at my book and tell you which ones are which when work is over.

Thanks. I only started IG in 6th, so I don't have any of the old books.

No problem. If I dont reply in 7 hours PM me and it will remind me. I will get my book and give you all the regiment specific doctrines.
For now, read this.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/H.B.M.C.'s_4th_Edition_Imperial_Guard_Doctrines_Tactica
It has a list of the doctrines and how good they were. But doesn't have the regiment specific list (which are these but a guideline on which armies use which ones etc)

Vostroyan forces typically preferred the following, though they obviously used any standard Imperial wargear and equipment.
Special Weapon: Plasma Guns
Heavy Weapon: Heavy Bolter
They tend to prefer mechanized warfare, specializing in urban combat, and make heavy use of Carapace type body armor on most of their infantry.
The only other regiment I'm vaguely familiar with is the Steel Legion of Armageddon. They tend to prefer Grenade Launchers as their special weapon and Lascannons as their preferred heavy weapon (These may be incorrect, so someone else correct me if I'm wrong). They're also heavily mechanized, preferring a mounted style of combat with every squad riding in a Chimera or transport of some kind.
That's all I've got. Take it easy for now.
