So thinking about Orks again and a competitive list geared at Maelstrom. The plan is to overwhelm my opponent with the volume of units. Whilst maintaining both strong firepower and CC punch:

CAD1

Warboss: Power Klaw, Da Finkin Kap 95

10 Boyz: Nob w/ PK, BP : Trukk w/ rokkit 130
10 Boyz: Nob w/ PK, BP : Trukk w/ rokkit 130

5 Tankbustas: Bomb squig: Trukk w/ rokkit 100
5 Tankbustas: Bomb squig: Trukk w/ rokkit 100

Warbuggie: rokkit 25
Warbuggie: rokkit 25
Warbuggie: rokkit 25

CAD2

Wierdboy: lvl2 70

10 Boyz: Nob w/ PK, BP : Trukk w/ rokkit 130
10 Boyz: Nob w/ PK, BP : Trukk w/ rokkit 130

5 Tankbustas: Bomb squig: Trukk w/ rokkit 100
5 Tankbustas: Bomb squig: Trukk w/ rokkit 100

Warbuggie: rokkit 25
Warbuggie: rokkit 25
Warbuggie: rokkit 25

CAD3

Warboss: Power Klaw 85

10 Boyz: Nob w/ PK, BP : Trukk w/ rokkit 130
10 Boyz: Nob w/ PK, BP : Trukk w/ rokkit 130

5 Tankbustas: Bomb squig: Trukk w/ rokkit 100
5 Tankbustas: Trukk w/ rokkit 95

Warbuggie: rokkit 25
Warbuggie: rokkit 25
Warbuggie: rokkit 25

Excluding Characters that is 33 separate units, 12 with ObSec. A total of 56 S8 Ap3 shots in a turn and 8 powerklaws with 60 CC boyz and a Wierdboy in case I draw the channel the warp Objective. OK this won't table top tier lists, nor will it be tabled by them. So this is about applying pressure through threat overload whilst consistently scoring VPs. 12 AV10 Trukks will take a while to kill regardless of the 93 Orks within them and whilst killing a buggie is easy you have to put an entire unit in to kill 1 25 point model. So that's a total of 54 AV10 hull points and 104 wounds split into 33 separate units. What do you think? This is basically an autowin vs any Deathstar list.

Not my sort of list (I prefer multiple small units of different things, but that's just me) but I can say that trukks do work well for snagging objectives. if you really want to screw with your opponents target priority, don't deploy the guys in the trukks. It's actually a very useful taktik for us orks, as we are prone to losing several trukks if we are going second or have the initiative seized on us. make sure the tankbustas can't be seen but can get into 2 different trukks - thus he has to kill 2 trukks to cripple the tankbustas mobility. deploying in the 5-6" distance to the trukk also means that if the trukk explodes, it'll have to roll a 6" explosion to hit every guy, which is better than just automatically hitting every guy regardless. it also means that you can send a trukk off empty, and he'll have a 30 point fast objective-secured line of sight blocking rokkit-toting trukk to deal with, for very little reward other than "removing the trukk". but then there's another, and another.

It's important to consider that, whilst you have 33 units, a decent deathstar can kill 3 a turn. one unit in the psychic phase, then shoot the trukk, then assault the contents. a generally mobile army will also be able to shoot the trukk & assault the cargo, and if it's just 5 tankbustas, chances are they'll be killed.

this list might fail against anyone with a few fliers, and a death-ray would be devastating as you'll probably be in a line for turns 2-3, and that many models it'll be hard to not let him hit 2-3 of them.

Flyers are not a problem at all, the Deathray will never fire as it won't be able to come on without flying over my head. A Deathstar CAN kill 3 units a turn, doesn't mean it will as most Deathstars are based on Psychic defence through Invisibility and the like more than Psychic Offence. And you corale them with Empty Trukks and Warbuggies then they're down to 1-2 units a turn.

I see the potential but I think you'll find some inherent problems.. board space being one, and that will compound the effects of blast weaponry and templates. Also consider star type units that are combat oriented, like orks can bring but really anything capable of multi charging.

Anyway I'm a huge fan of MSU but I think this list should back off that aspect to add a few durable units to draw fire. This would be a place to bunker those HQs too so you don't give up StW as easily.

On the units themselves I feel lone koptas are superior due to jetbike status (jink, boost and ignore terrain) and scout.

The bustas I would suggest maxing out on squigs.

I prefer buggies due to survivability and points. I can see arguments for both but I have no where to find 45 points. Same for Squigs no extra points.

The problem with adding a tougher unit as a bunker for Characters is that unit offers an obvious target and makes my opponent's decisions easier. So rather than being a bunker the unit just becomes a death trap. I could add MANz missiles but again they are expensive I'm giving up 4 units for 1.

As for board space that is kind of the point of this list. It has great board control. That's how it beats flyers and corales Serpent Spam and Tau. Deny the opponent anywhere to run whilst constantly racking up VPs.
