Hi!

i have a opponent who often plays necrons, and his standard build is three anni barges with immortals and those haywire crypteks, with two full squads of wraiths each led by a destroyer lord with MSS, SW and/or sometimes the 3++ wargear.

i can usually deal with the barges okay, but its very difficult to have breathing space with these two fast wraith units bearing down on me, and i havent had much luck throwing MC's and vehicles at it because of rending/warscythe, nor beat-stick characters because of MSS. strength 8+ is nice because of ID but i cant usually bring enough of it to bare to get past the 3++'s and inflict enough wounds before he reaches my lines.

i usually do okay with my slaanesh army because invisible seekers handle wraiths really easily, but i struggle with eldar and dark eldar. what are some efficient ways of dealing with a list like this at 1850 points?

Volume of fire will remove 2+ or 3+ saves

Especially the invul type.

Or mass blasters if they are available

or another option is to send in t he wyches and lock em in for a while. 3++ vs 4++ gives you some time to deal with other things.

First, he can't take haywire crypteks if his only HQ units are Destroyer Lords. DLords don't unlock a royal court.

Second, the Destroyer Lord can not take the Phase Shifter upgrade for a 3++ save.

But to answer your primary question: For DE, Raiders with splinter racks. Venoms with splinter cannons. Anything that spams shots. As a necron player, I can tell you that it's not single big shots that take down my wraiths - it's piles of little shots. The more you take, the more you make. Try to kite at the edge of your range and backpedal as he comes in at you.

For Eldar, same strategy, only with serpent shields and as many scatter lasers as you can pack into a list.

As others have mentioned: mass fire. What hasn't been mentioned : farseers. Doom in particular is brutal against these schmuks, as it amplifies all your small/medium str dmg output. Misfortune used to really screw them over, but this is 7th. Psychic shriek can also be ok, especially when comboed with armor of misery from the archon who just deep struck in with those fire dragons right behind the wraiths. Doom a squad, and shoot at it until it disappears. Rinse, repeat.

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

I am not an eldar player, my friend is. And in our gaming circle we have this exact matchup sometimes. He has a lot of luck with war walkers out flanking with dual scatter lasers. Usually the destroyer lord is out front to tank incoming fire, so they show up behind and blast the squad with many str 6 hits. 3++ save only goes so far. Then when the d-lord is by himself its easy pickings.

As a necron player who uses wraiths, just shoot them lots. They only have 3+ saves, so volume of fire does the trick.

Wait, what? Every destroyer lord i see has 3++. I thought they're born like this. Like chapter masters are allready born on bikes with shields eternal. Yep, that's some hardcore child birth.

Nope. It seems like it's a common "mistake" among Necron players though.

The correct setup is to use the sempiternal weave for a 2+ on the Destroyer Lord and the Wraiths invulnerable with LOS! as needed.

Also as both Eldar and Necron player I agree: lots of shots. For Eldar this doesn't have to be your precious Serpent Shield shots - you want those Ignore Cover shots on his jinking vehicles. Scatter Lasers are fine, but... I found out that simple shuriken catapults can do the trick, too, or at least contribute to saving precious Serpent Shield shots.

I have found that a guided unit of Pulse Laser Hornets gak all over Wraiths.
