Hey guys.
I'm getting back in to warhammer again. Many moons ago was the last time I collected. Anyway, after going through selected codex's
It was between chaos daemons or necron, I chose necron. (The chaos codex was... chaotic)
So I got my self a battle force, a C'Tan shard of the deceiver. Stormlord. I'm going to get a couple of more things, but I have 2 questions. First. Doomsday ark or ghost ark? My friend said the doomsday is poor. But that cannon is pretty powerful right?
Also. I want to get something.... pretty out side the box,
So tesseract ark or tesseract vault?
I appreciate any advice that anyone is willing to give,
After a long time out of this, I'm basically a newbie.

Welcome! Mwuahaha!
(unasked Question): Use your C'Tan shard as a Transcendent C'Tan instead...trust me. (use it as both at times, really )
First. Doomsday ark or ghost ark? My friend said the doomsday is poor. But that cannon is pretty powerful right?
Ghost Ark. The Dommsday Ark is really good, but it is basically stationary. If you move it, it gets a huge nerf to its gun. If you play a Doomsday Ark, LOS issues can ruin your plans for it entirely...I think your friend is correct here.
So tesseract ark or tesseract vault?
Not entirely sure what you mean here....do you mean Tesseract Vault build vs. Obelisk build (two build choices out of the Tesseract Vault kit)? Or are you considering buying a Tesseract Vault kit or a forgeworld Tesseract Ark kit?
Also, be aware!!! There is likely to be a new Necron codex in the near future, which could shake things up.

Ah ok, I knew there was a nightbringer. Didn't know I could use it as a transcendent. I will look that up in the codex.
Yeah I saw on forge world ( mate told me if I go on there I could potentially be skint after 3 hours) a tesseract ark kit. Ans I was toying with the idea of getting the ark, or going on to dark sphere and getting a vault.
I've heard rumours of this new codex. Am I right in saying the necrons are getting... well best way to say this is
' piss take good' ?

You'll not find the Transcendent C'Tan in the codex. He is in a book called 'Escalation'. He is a 'Gargauntuan Creature', a new category of super-crazy beastie that has been introduced to 40k.
The thing is, the Transcendent C'Tan model is really hardly any bigger than the Nightbringer you have, so most people would have no problem if you proxied the Nightbringer as a Transcendent C'Tan.
Too complicated???...don't worry about it for now. Just know that the Transcendent C'Tan is a beast, and most people wouldn't mind you using your Nightbringer as one.
As for the Tesseract Vault vs. Tesseratc Ark....I can't tell you about the Ark, no personal experience there, but for now, the Tesseract Vault kit is not worth it, for the exact reasons I just mentioned! The best unit you can get out of that box is the Transcendent C'Tan...which is all things considered just a ghosty model almost ecatcly the same size and "genre" as the C'Tan shard you already have,
'piss take good' must be a British saying...I have no idea what that means

If you use Transcendent ctan, it doesn't matter what else you bring. Or what your opponent brings. Yep, it's that broken. It might be some sort of a game when you inform your opponents beforehand on what you're bringing and they try to tailor to beat it. But an unprepared enemy doesn't have much chance of doing something against it.

Yes, this is a good point. Some people don't like playing against the TYranscendent C'Tan....just know for now that amongst those who wouldn't care, they likely wouldn't mind if you proxied you're Nightbringer for a Transcendent C'Tan, so save your money, and don't buy that Tesseract Vault kit (unless you 're in love with the model or something)

Thanks guys! Is there a PDF out there I can get for the transcendent?
Also my model is the deceiver shard. Not nightbringer, is that still ok? To be fair if it's not. I will save the money from the tesseract models I was going to buy.
Piss take good means " they are that good it's taking stupid"
honestly guys. Thank you for this information. I can only read up so much. And my mate collects blood angels and has limited knowledge of necrons. Plus he told me he has this HQ that is rwally good. Can grow wings and fly ect. I want to kill it! Lol

In the current codex, there is absolutely no difference between the Deceiver and the Nightbringer....they are both just "C'Tan Shards" (both of which could be proxied as a Transcendent C'Tan by any reasonable opponent).
The next codex is anyone's guess. The most beleivable rumors I have heard are reasonable points adjustments, and pretty much more of the same...but you never, ever know. (It is also possible, not probable but just possible, that they might reintroduce differences between the "Nightbringer" and "Deceiever" versions of the "C'Tan Shard".
The rules for the Transcendent C'Tan are in GW publications "Escalation" and "Apocalypse (the newest version of Apocalypse)
PDFs on the internet? I've heard that resourceful people can find these things, but I have no experience in such matters. I recommend lawful hobbying, and will happily answer any of your questions that I can related to that

I've been reading in to this shard...would it be nasty if I didn't tell my friends and just unleashed it? Lol.
Also they play 6th edition rules. That wouldn't make a difference to me using it would it?

"Escalation" (the book that allowed models like the Transcendent C'Tan into 'regular' 40k games) was introduced between 6th and 7th edition. It's probably best to ask your friends if they play with "Escalation" rules....if they do, and they are your friends, smoke the living gak out of them with that model, says I.
If they're people you want to charm up to, acquaintances or what not, people you don't want to make angry, (you get what I mean here) then I'd give them a fair warning...it is a nasty bugger indeed.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
The thing is, is that the Transcendent C'Tan is really not very hard to kill...so don't feel too bad about using it, despite what some people on these boards might end up telling you.
The "Escalation" book is choc-full-o nasty gak. If your friends are already playing with "Escalation" rules, they may very well pull something of similar potency against you
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Come to think of it, and you should know this....you should not play the Transcendent C'Tan unless your friends are playing with and are familiar with Escalation rules...those rules are not in the 6th edition rulebook, and there are crazy things that can happen when a Gargantuan Creature dies that can hurt you (and depending on the models position and the luck of the dice can potentially hurt you very badly.)
Before you play a game with Transcendent C'Tan rules, make sure everyone you and your friends understand playing Escalation rules, and the rules for Gargantuan Creatures and Super Heavy Vehicles contained therein
(P.S. Sorry for so many edits...my New Years resolution will be to click the 'Preview' button )

Coming back to the more basic things you might want to get:
-Get a pack or two of Immortals/Deathmarks and build the Deathmarks, then you can use Warrior parts to also build the Immortals. This way with two packs of Immortals/DMs and one of Warriors you can get 10 Deathmarks, 10 Immortals, some Scarab bases and you still got quite some bits you can use e.g. for Crypteks.
- A Destroyer Lord and 5 Wraiths (2 packs would be 6 Wraiths though) are almost auto include in most Necron lists currently. This is a very durable unit that moves quickly and hits hard.
- 2 Night Scythes are a very nice unit choice which will allow you to bring your Necrons where they are needed and provide Flyer Dakka themselves. You can easily build them so you can use them as both Night and Doom Scythes.
- Barges. The Catacomb Command Barge is (still) a beast that can hit anything (even Flyers) with sweep attacks and is very durable. Take care though since 6th ed treated chariots differently. Annihilation Barges are very good Dakka for their points. If you do not glue the varying parts into place you can use them as both CCB or Anni Barges, as needed.

Yes indeed. Pay heed to everything above. Everything I told you about the Transcendent C'Tan was just to keep you from wasting money on the Tesseract Vault box (I didn't mean to plant your mind on this one thing)....above is the "true Necron", "bread and butter" stuff you should be thinking about at this point IMO.

No, but with the new 7th edition codex coming you should probably try to convince them to switch to 7th. Honestly it's a better ruleset all around.

Anybody with any sense that values their war gaming time and sanity won't let you play a transcendent c'tan no matter which model you have because it the most OP, broken unit in the history of war games. It's like taking an M4 to a paintball fight. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also a little birdie told me that typing "x book name pdf" into Google search bar will get you what you seek.

Welcome back sir! 6th ed codexes gave us Riptides, Wraithknights and Dreadknights! Have fun dealing with them!
On a more serious note, welcome back. My friend plays Necrons and its a force not to be underestimated. The Ghost Ark is a lot better when you are starting out so I would make at least two before considering making a Doomsday Ark.
