Currently 3.
Skaven in January is UNCONFIRMED.
Rumours point to 4. Though possibly 5 with the immense success they've been having.
|
Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states. |

And by "success" - you mean printing about 50 copies which sell out before White Dwarf is out to advertise them on the saturday - even though they're meant to be pre-orders?
This whole limited edition gak has pushed me into Kings of War. I've given up with GW now. I have the cash to buy stuff yet they don't print enough. They panic bring out a paperback version after most of the interest has wained - besides - all my other GW books are hardback - why do I now want a naff paperback in the style they pushed us away from years ago. Sorry GW - I have bookshelf OCD.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity. |

By success I mean the significant increase in revenue. But by all means keep on the bashing GW bandwagon.
"This whole limited edition gak has pushed me into Kings of War. I've given up with GW now."
Clearly not, you're still browsing a forum dedicated to their game, complaining that you have the cash to buy it but they didn't make enough
Seriously GW is not perfect, they make a good number of mistakes but the end times has seen a resurgence in fantasy, and increase in revenue. By all definitions that's a success. It's fun to bitch & hate, just be wel informed when you do it.

For me, I'd hardly call it a success as I've been unable to get the books I wanted.
For GW? Yeah, it probably is a success, they've finally generated some extra interest in fantasy (good job) and can tell their board members all their recent stuff has been a sell out.
I'm bashing because of their poor marketing on this. I've played WHFB on and off since 1984. I've not moved away to other games when new editions/rulebooks/army books have been released, whether or not those rules were better or worse. Having played for like 30 years, of course I'm still interested - it's been most of my life now, so apologies if you don't think it's appropriate I still read forums about it. Maybe my local model shop will ban me from buying White Dwarf each week when they find out I'm "bashing" GW for poor marketing.
Am I going to try new games now? Yes.
I started playing Deadzone because all the people I played 40K against have stopped, and at least my wife will play smaller games like Deadzone.
I'm now off to try out Kings of War because GW seem to be only wanting to market their stuff to the first few people that manage to click on their website as it gets updated on a Friday night.
I'll go back to lurking now. Apologies for taking up your time.

I just thought it was funny you "have given up on GW" yet here you stand reading & talking about their game and how they're doing. It wasn't directly against you, it's more an insight I see every time something happens about how many people are "quitting" and "giving up" and "going to other companies" yet they continue to read up, discuss & generally have an interest in how GW is doing.
The other thing many people don't seem to realize is like it or not GWs only measure of success is how much money they're making. They're publically traded and exist to benefit the shareholders. If they're making money, they're successful.
I understand your frustrations and I'm not trying to insult or demean you. I'm frustrated as well and I want them to stop making mistakes but the end times has been a complete & total success for them. They're profit margins are going nowhere but up in the WHFB sector (I don't pay attention to LOTR or 40k)

No one knows for 100% sure how many there will be outside employees of GW.
That said, there are currently 2 released, one that will be released a week from today, two more confirmed (one known to be a skaven focused book, the other is less well known about what it will be ... i've heard stories of Chaos vs. Undead, but that sounds honestly very odd to me. I don't know if i believe that, with so many other armies that have gotten exactly zero love up to this point).
So 2 released, one about to be released, two more for absolutely sure to come, and past that no one really knows. There have been some strong indications that book 5 will be the last one, but nothing concrete. Honestly, with all the gak going on in the Olde World right now, i'm not sure how they are going to tie a bow on it all come book 5. I think there might be more, or they will lead directly into 9th edition.

Its more like 2 have been released, one is going to be released in a week, and at least one more confirmed. We dont know if there will be 4 books total, or 5, or more. Originally rumors indicated 4 books, recent rumors have indicated 5.
The likelihood of there being more "due to success" is slim to none. The 4th and 5th book (if there is one) have likely already been printed and sitting in a warehouse for a few weeks now, given that theres typically a 3+ month lead time to have books published, that doesnt include the months of preparation in advance to prepare artwork, write rules, fluff, etc.

Just because they sold out doesn't mean that they didn't make enough. Especially when you consider that they print these books in at least a half a dozen languages and they have to have them all printed before they go up for sale. Not only that but local retailers around the world have first dibs on these things before they even go up on the site. Also when you consider what this brings to the table for elf players. You can now play 3 distinct armies as one faction. No wonder they flew off the shelves

This is actually a very good point. my one LGS refused to order nagash because the previous Sigmars blood & Triumph & Treachery didn't sell well. Once it sold out he changed his tune & ordered 2 glottkin, those sold out & now he's ordered even more khaine. So maybe since they're doing well, retailers are ordering more, reducing the online stock.

There are definitely more orders coming from retailers, my local store was able to get 10 copies or so of nagash in, but aas capped at 5 or 6 copies of glottkin, and GW would only allocate him 2 copies of Khaine.

Bigger retailers get more copies as well, don't forget that.

my FLGS is probably one of the biggest brick and mortar/non internet stores in the northeastern USA, at least in terms of sales volume, if they are capped at 2 and GW is scaling distribution then a lot of stores will be lucky to get 1 Id imagine.

"Non internet" I got my preorder reserved through an internet retailer & it's hinted they had more than 2.
