Hey guys,

Well I am a new (kind of, had a look at it a bit 20 years ago) player looking to get into playing. I am mainly learning it alongside a couple of friends and we are all in the same boat learning the ropes as we go.

I have a game coming up tomorrow night and was wondering if people could help me out a bit with an ork list, as we are all new we are allowing proxies from other armies that we own. For example I could use my terminators as meganobz and so forth.

It is going to be a 1000 point battle and I will be playing against chaos, not over sure what he is fielding but I noticed a new Helldrake on the shelf, and I know he has the dark vengeance box set so expecting units from that.

My overall aim was a 2 units of boyz, with a bit of heavy support from a squad of killa kanz, then with further long range support from lootas, but would love to hear some ideas.

This is a list of what I currently own

60xboyz
60x grotz
10x Nobz
1x Warboss
3x Killa kans
3x Deff kopters
1x Deff dread
5x lootas

Add to that a fairly varied SM force for picking proxies out of.

Would love to hear peoples thoughts on this

This is the list that I have cobbled together, I think the points values are correct, but please feel free to correct me.

HQ
Warboss upgraded with mega armour, twin linked shoots and power claw 100 pts

Troops 1 184
19x Shoota boyz
Inc 4 x Rokkit Launchers
1 Painboy

Troops 2 184
19 Shoota Boyz
Inc 4 big shoota's
1 Painboy

Elites
Lootas x10 190
painboy

Heavy Support
Killakans x3 150

Fast attack
Deffkoptas x3 90
Stormboyz x5 45

Totals 943, where to spend the other 57 points? maybe a wierdboy?

Hello!
I'm not a very great player but I hope I can help with a few suggestions:

1) You can't have four Big shootas or Rokkit launchas in one unit.
As "for every ten models in the unit, one Ork Boy may replace their ranged weapon with one of Big shoota…5 pts or Rokkit launcha…5 pts."

2) If your army is unbound you can have 4 HQs (warboss and 3 painboys).
If not 3 HQs is maximum for Orks.

3) A warboss in mega armour is a great close combat fighter so take for him 'Da Lucky Stick' and add a mob of Nobs or MegaNobs with a painboy.
A transport (a Truck or BattleWagon) is essential in this case as the warboss in mega armour can't run as well as the unit he joined.

4) Boyz' mobs need a Nob Boss with Bosspole as they are too cowardly and can easy run away.

4) Lootas are Heavy Support now not Elite.

5) Five Stormboyz can be fun to play but can't do any damage.

6) Take a unit of gretchins to control objective markers.

Glad if it will help.

Awesome, thanks for that

Wow I made a few mistakes there, I must have misread the codex a bit, so will be dropping down to 2 rokkit launcher/big shoota per squad. I will also drop the painboy from the loota mob, hoping to hide them in cover somewhere so that they will get that save and not need the extra FNP.

Not sure if we are doing unbound or not, but might as well make it legal. Do I need to take an elite choice, or can heavy support go in their place?

Are the stormboyz that bad, was thinking of jumping them into some cultists and chopping heads off?

Gretchins are a great shout will see if I can rejig it a bit

Any army is legal in the current edition. The point is in Command Benefits which you get if your army is battle-forged. Check the rulebook on page 122 for more information.

As for Ork Horde Detachment - 1 HQ and 3 Troops are compulsory to get 'Boss of Da Waaagh!' and 'The Greenskin Hordes' benefits. Everything else is optional.

Stormboyz are as great as simple boyz; you need a lot of them. Remeber, If you deep strike them you can't assault in that turn so they will be easy target to shoot or charge even for cultists.

Good luck!

Storm boys aren't competitive by any means, but they are damn fun. You would need at least 20 though to keep them alive long enough for assaulting. Gretchin are amazing. Spend the extra points on a nob for the boyz cos they need it to stop them runnin'.

Might drop the stormboyz altogether then, Spend the remaining points on a couple of Nobz for the boyz and then a gretchin blob

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the help

Our battle ended in a glorious draw, I ran in to trouble entering close combat as he was using Crimson slaughter and pretty much everything caused fear reducing my WS to 1 after my appalling leadership fails. I did manage to knock his hell brute out with a sneaky flank attack with my boys and unleashing a couple of rokkits into its rear, rolling 4 consecutive sixes and watching it go down was great.

My Loota's did not really prove their worth in the end though every high value target was constantly hidden in cover and I could not cause any damage.

My Kans and Deffdred did a what I wanted them to do and worked as bullet magnets to allow everything else to get up close and personal and I only lost 1 Kan and the dred.

All in all a lot of fun was had, and we learnt a lot, we have both decided to buy the pysical codex's as well rather than the digital ones we have as it was soo hard navigating them on an iPad
