Recently I've started a Space Marine biker army. Now that I have them, I need to get them on the field! What is the best way to move bikes? An arrowhead formation? A V shape? A vertical line, or horizontal bars?
I've seen bikes used in tournaments where they kept moving like a latter, in order to gain that half an inch from pivots, and to space out from blasts and templates. .. Are there any more tips and tricks to bike placement and movement?

I always try and keep them around 1.5-2" away from eachother for minimising blasts. Additionally, I start them in a '5' format. Like the 5 dot representation on a d6. Two normal guys up front, sargent with combi in the middle and the two specials in the back. It just stops me losing my firepower easily. It kinda looks like (dots because the spaces are being removed...): |....| ..| |....| That is the easiest way to represent it in text. They dont stay perfectly spaced like that as the game goes on, but the bullet catchers are upfront. Personally, I dont start them out flat against the deployment line for extra pivot distance. Always feel a bit cheeky doing that...

I like to have my bikes in a zigzag pattern. It minimises blasts and keeps a good spread across the table. If you have special weapons, a decked out sergeant, or both, have them at the back. The other formation I like is a diamond. Same as before, keep special weapons to the back. This one is a lot more defensive, and probably better.

2" is actually a pretty generous spacing, and bikes have the potential to really maximise the spread.
The more you spread out, the fewer models caught under templates, but equally - the more likely a blast will be to still catch models even after it scatters.
Against high BS opponents, it's probably worth spreading out more as they are less likey to scatter. If you're playing against alpha strike with flamers - spread out as far as possible in deployment. Against an opponent with no template weapons, bunch up to get cover saves.
A compromise formation would be a long, nose-to-tail line with 2” spacing. A large template would hit 2 models at most, a flamer maybe three. Plus, if it scatters there's a good chance that it won't hit anything. You probably have enough movement to re-form in the first turn and still move forward if you need to. The big problem here would be taking your dangerous terrain tests - but this conga-line could potentially thread between terrain - much slower though and if your front one or two models gets picked off, you effectively lose 6" of movement.
