I’m sure everyone is aware of the coming Mordheim PC game, if not I encourage you to pay the official page a visit here: http://www.mordheim-cityofthedamned.com/
Early access for the game was announced on November 20th, and just from seeing the gameplay videos I am getting pretty excited from what I have seen so far. However what I am most excited about is the remote possibility this will mean a new GW release of Mordheim, as was the case when Space Hulk was released for the PC.
I am not as optimistic as I would like to be about this happening. The major difference is that unlike Space Hulk that is comprised of two sides, Mordheim has several factions for players to choose from. So would GW create a single game that has all of the factions, or just two factions and then I could purchase the other factions? Honestly it seems GW is concentrating on 40K and Fantasy having removed all of the side games it once had. Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Mordheim, Battle Fleet Gothic, and Epic. I’m sure I missed one or two in there, but it should be enough to make my point. After a poor sales year it seems GW is only concentrating on it main brands, and any dalliances it does have on side games will be to produce less than what the demand is for so all products sell off of the shelf. Due to the multiple faction play that is Mordheim I’m afraid I will only hope for a game release at this point.
What do you think, can we expect a new edition of Mordheim?

I'm afraid not. According to some nasty rumors in the net, Mordheim was (still is) a way too fun game to play and was getting way too popular as well. Only problem was, people needed about 20 models to play it, instead of about 120 like in WHFB, and worst of all, Mordheim was taking players from WHFB instead of being a roll-in product for it. So less profit for GW. Ofcourse something had to be done to stop the process and the easiest way to do it was simply stop supporting Mordheim. So in short 1) make a good game 2) stop supporting it 3) profit.
But this is just a rumor and probaly not even a true one.

Important, but it's also worth remembering that the 2014 Space Hulk was just an incredibly lazy re-hash of the 2009 Space Hulk. The moulds were sitting in a warehouse, the rules and corridor sections were sitting on a computer, it was just a matter of running off some more copies.
Mordheim needs considerably more work to re-release, both in redeveloping the range and the rules. Certainly, we expect Mordheim players to use WHFB sprues/bitz, but GW can't just shove a load of them in a new release.

All they would need to do is release a new rule book. People could easily use models from the fantasy range.

I don't see GW putting in very much work for one of the side games right now. It would be nice if Mordheim did get a full remake with the attention to detail it deserves, but unless the video game does phenomenal in sales probably not going to happen.

You just pointed out a good reason it will never happen.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

As Noir implies, GW really don't like the idea that the SGs can undercut the core game market.
I think it's a massive reason why the SGs were eventually culled. Aside from the fact that a box of Empire Militia simply don't show up as a Mordheim sale and thus make Mordheim look like it's not selling very well, GW feel that lower cost of entry is a threat to WHFB.
While Blancitsu shows an abundance of what are very frequently (28mm) Inquisitor, Inquisimunda or Mordheim models, it seldom comes with a single mention that these games ever even existed...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a limited edition run of a new rulebook in a fancy design for an expensive price.
I'm delusional but I'm still hoping for a rerelease of Warhammer Quest. Conditions are perfect:
1. The App was great and successful.
2. It is a boardgame akin to Space Hulk.
3. A fully self contained game can be contained within a box set, but for the game to be expanded players are required to get many more additional miniatures than for Mordhiem.
4. They already have single mold Night Goblins and Skaven from the last two WHFB box sets that could be used.
Conditions are perfect :p

Mordheim was what cemented me into the hobby, it had elements of RPG, was pretty cheap to play and the background was that excellent blend of apocalyptic nihilism, dark humour and the downright bizarre - the art work in the rule book scared me as a kid.
Its a shame GW have let it slide but remember the rules are still there and you can make a warband with a single regiment box and a little imagination.

GW could re-release Mordheim, but if they did I can guarantee you it would just be a re-release of the core box set (Empire and Skaven). All the bits were plastic or cardboard, so they wouldn't have to re-work anything. There would be no additional model support of any kind, and the releease would be a "super-duper limited edition" and available only online for a total of twenty to thirty seconds. Afterwards, it would disappear entirely from the website.

GW does not, and will not further support any specialist games. Come this time next year the only thing you will see in stores will be fantasy and 40k and in 5 years nothing but 40k. Theres NOTHING new for mordheim coming and if anything is holding on to hope that GW will make the right call and support this AWESOME game, you are living a fools dream. Its a great shame but theres no way anything about that is going to change.
