Just finished reading the glottkin, and I must admit that after the marvelous Nagash book, I think it was a bit of a letdown. The story wasn't as well written, especially in the beginning. The book contained way less intrigue and surprise, and way too much pointless battle. Even the element that could have been turned into a good story (hellborg reign of terror, Gilles usurpation of Louen crown) were only superficially approached. The false promise that Atldorf would fall, only for it to resist. It seems like it was more of a filler, that had no real big consequence on the warhammer world. It was pretty much only a boring old regular chaos invasion, and had none of the impact of the first end time book.

Hopefully, the Khaine book will bring back the magic and excitement, and from the glimpse we had, it seems like it will be an absolutely epic book.

Well. The iBook tells you that Teclis is undoing the great vortex to gain the power equivalent to the chaos gods, in one of the preview pages. Note the plural.

I voted yes, but i want to clarify ; i don't think Glottkin was a letdown. It's just that Nagash was so impossibly above and beyond the standards of quality i was expecting, and was HUGE to boot, that following that act would be daunting for just about anything. Nagash was a giant cannonball that splashed a lot of the water out of the pool, so to speak.... i think Glottkin is about where my expectations are now for Khaine and future books, but if we get another stunner on the level of Nagash i'll be really happy. On its own merits GLottkin is still a stellar book... and while sure Altdorf didn't fall, Marienburg did, and that's no small feat. The empire is also in utter shambles.

And Archaon hasn't even showed up yet ; this was just one of his forward lieutenants. We still have yet to see what Setra does too with the chaos gods whispering to him.

Whenever I see a biased poll I vote for the one I think they're trying to keep me from out of spite.

IE "noticeably better" is a lower hurdle than "blows out of the water"

I don't think Glottkin's a let down, its a small isolated timeframe compared to Nagash and Khaine so not as encompassing.

BTW, Endtimes Khaine is easily the best bit of story/fluff/events i have read for fantasy in a LOOOOONG time.

you have to read it. it really is great.

All anyone wants in the world is to be accepted. Except me, i don't give a S%@t.

It does.

I think glotkin was a bit of a letdown yeah. Unlike Nagash and Khaine, there were quite a few sections of Glotkin where I was legitimately bored.

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

Screw it, Netflix and chill.

Yeah but most of the Nagash Vs Nehekara I struggled to get through. undead vs Undead was just so tedious & boring. There were moments yes but for most of the battle it's "we kill you, you raise. You kill us, we raise but a bit slower, you start to win".

I'm an UL player & it was a tough grind.

This. Most of Chapter 5 save for the end was really painful to get through. In all honestly, everything after the beginning of the Nagash book is a let down because there you get some of the most shocking details. It set the scene for all the books, and you have crazy stuff like the Green Knight taking off his helmet and it turning out to be the founder of Bretonnia.

That said, Glotkin is the most underwhelming of the books thus far IMHO. Not nearly as much intrigue compared to Nagash and Khaine. Just lots of grinding it out.

Yes, it was. Because it was about that filthy layabout Nurgle instead of an interesting deity like Tzeentch.

The reason for this is unlike Nagash, there isn't a lot of scheming, everyone knows the goal of Chaos. Most people didn;t know that Mannfred & Arkhan were trying to raise Nagash, people just thought they were stealing artefacts.

As for intrigue again there isn't much to be had. Chaos is pretty much unified & disputes are settled by battle. They are the vanguard of the larger invasion ahead & were there to fight & kill and die. In Khaine the 3 elves aren;t unified & need to be brought together via scheming. Also where chaos settles arguments by brute force elves use intrigue & diplomacy. It's just the nature of the topic.

I don't think it was a let down so much as it was exactly what it was. A book detailing a chaos invasion force. No real intrigue or schemes to be had there, it's pretty straightforward.
