If Permission is granted to do X, and nothing revokes permission to do X, then X can be done. So the real question is: Can anyone find something that removes permission to Jink? To my understanding, the answer is "no, we can not find anything which revokes permission to Jink."

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

They can utilize the Jink rule, yes.
What makes you think they can't?

If you want fluff justification, just imagine "immobilized" as destroying the main thruster. It can still suddenly tilt or change altitude to evade an incoming shot, but it can neither rotate nor move in the horizontal plane.
RAW (and how almost everyone seems to play it) is that they're still skimmers, so can still jink.

Yeah, we were a bit surprised about that as well, so we jokingly started coming up with ideas for why that was possible. Possible reasons include: - The Skimmer, while attempting to dodge the shot with malfunctioning thrusters, kicked up a cloud of dust thick enough to obscure it. The cloud also obscures their vision causing them to snap shot the following turn. - The crew, while attempting to repair the vehicle, are able to turn enough systems on for a split second anti-grav burst, causing it to "hop over" the shot. The force of being jostled around prevents them from aiming effectively the following turn. - The Skimmer was carrying experimental cloaking technology. They use it in order to attempt to dodge the shot, however it drains a great deal of power, hampering their targeting systems. It's actually pretty fun to think of fluffy reasons for some of the strange rules in the game.

I imagine Neo in the matrix stuck in one spot but dodging everything thrown at him. The skimmer vehicle equivalent of that could be a fly attached by a leash to the floor.

Yeah, GW kinda borked the Jink mechanic.
Immobilized skimmers, walking FMC's, etc can all Jink because they forgot to put exceptions to the contrary in.
As noted, GW has zero interest in doing errata/FAQ to their rules, so don't expect it to change until we get a new edition.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Cheers everyone for your responses.

Real World Common Sense/Real World Logic/How it works in the real world has no bearing on the 40k Ruleset.
Remember: The rules were not written to be "Modern day real world" logical.
The rules are an abstract system used to simulate a battle in the year 40,000.
What would happen in the modern day real world has nothing to do with the RAW, or the simulation of a battle fought 38,000 years from now. (and maybe not even on a planet with the same physical makeup as our earth, and probably different physics as well).
As such they need to have some compromises to make the game playable.

I've always thought of it fluff wise as the crew puts the anti-grav's into overdrive and bounce the skimmer up.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |
