Leviathan will become legal at our next tournament in December, so I would try some new things from it.
Opponents will be mostly MSU marine variants and a bunch of CSM, with 3 necron and 2 eldar players leading the rankings.

CAD:
2 flyrant 2x240

Venom 45 (chasing skytyrant to give it shrouded)

2x3 DS ripper 2x45

Carnifex with 2x dev in spore 225
T-fex with acid and ESG, in spore 265

Skytyrant:
Flyrant, obliterax, 1x devourer, ESG 275
2x10 gargoyle 2x60


Is this viable against mech spam armies?

I don't see much in the way of wasted points. 3 Winged Tyrants should give you a fearsome presence. If Mech spam is your primary concern, it would be worth it to consider swapping the Tyrannofex for a second Carnifex. I Love Tyranofex, but it works best as a Troop slaying Bullet magnet, and it is not quite as good vs metal boxes.

If you do swap, you'll save some points. Then you can look at economizing on the Sky Tyrant to get enough for another unit of Rippers or the like. (Drop the Reaper, add Bone sword+ Gland...)So either way you should get good value.

I tried the Skytyrant formation last night. I enjoyed it. It was nice to finally see melee tyrants get into combat again. I too gave it the reaper but felt I would have had the same effect with Lw/BS. The +1S isn't all that needed. The Egrubs were also hard to use with so many gargoyles around. I'd spend the extra points on beefing up the gargoyle unit. Paroxysm is also a great power to have handy. They can actually contribute quite a bit to wounds as well as attacks in the combat. ID on the bone swords is so nice. Just watch out for Mind Shackle Scarabs. I killed my self vs a Lord. I then killed my own fully healthy toxicrene vs the same lord to a 6 ID myself. Just my 2 cents
