Hey everyone my father has asked me to find out what are the best expansions for the card/board game called Dominion?

I am assuming someone on here has played it!

I remember playing it with a bunch of people and I loved it.

So in short what are the best expansions and the ones worth buying?

This is for my family and we really enjoy simple board games, and dominion is quite easy to learn.

And by the way I am talking about this game : http://www.amazon.com/Rio-Grande-Games-RGG370-Dominion/dp/B001JQY6K4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417109995&sr=8-1&keywords=board+game+dominion

I like cornucopia a lot, since it has a lot of cards that encourage variety and I feel that one of the weaknesses of the core is that it encourages spamming.

A lot of people like Intrigue, but I didn't find it that great, mostly because it has some nasty attack cards and one that I feel is on the broken side.

I've heard very good things about Prosperity, dark Ages, and Seaside, though haven't played them.

Oh well then thank you!

So Cornucopia is based more on what?

So Original
Cornucopia
and Dark Age?

Would that be a good selection?

Cornucopia gives a lot of bonuses like "+1 gold per different card played" or "draw 1 card, or draw 3 if you don't have doubles in your hand" or "worth x point per 5 different cards in your deck", or "keep drawing until you get a double"- stuff like that. Playing Cornucopia-focused, we've often had games where all players have at 15+ varieties of cards.

IDK about dark ages, just heard it recommended.

I have played Dominion a lot, and own over half the sets.

Intrigue is a second copy of a "base game" and comes with Gold/Silver/Copper and Victory cards, so it can be used as a standalone.

I don't think ANY of the other sets contain those cards, so you will need at least one of those sets.

Seaside has "lingering effect" cards, Actions that you play on your turn, AND that stick around for another effect on your following turn.

Intrigue has "choice" cards.. Action cards that let you do one of 2 or 3 things, and you can change your choices each time you play them.

Cornucopia has Action cards that trigger based on number of unique cards in your hand or deck.. like "Gain 1 victory point for each unique title of card in your deck at end of game" so it rewards diversity.

Prosperity has "choice" and "lingering" cards like Seaside and Intrigue, but it ramps money production up with MOST cards in the set costing 5+ to buy, but also adding in Platinum Coins and Colony victory point cards

Hinterlands deals with "immediate" action cards, cards that let you do something IMMEDIATELY on purchase, and then later when played as normal.. "Nomad camp - when you purchase this, place it on top of your deck, then...xxx"

Dark Ages deals with Trashing and Upgrading your deck, as your starting cards will be very poor and you will want to get rid of them asap.

Guilds lets you "overpay" for cards which requires a bit more mental math.. Action cards that cost "X" but let you pay "X+2" for a better effect..

Alchemy is the set that introduces the "potion" resource card in addition to money.. All but 1 Action card in that set requires the Potion resource, so .. you either use that set only, or risk having no one buy Kingdom cards from the set. It DOES have about the most annoying Kingdom card in the set - Possession - which allows you to take an opponents turn for him.. So far, this is the one set I have personally NO interest in owning.

For me and my family group.. this is the order we got the expansions in, and our wishlist in order..

Dominion
Prosperity
Cornicopia
Intrigue

and we are trying to get
Seaside
Dark Ages
Hinterlands

and will probably pass on
Alchemy
Guilds

Hope this helps, and if you have questions.... hit me up
