In a situation where you didn't need to unlock another FOC as cheap as possible.. what do you think of Kommando's?

Bare Bone Kommandos are only 15 points more than a base squad of Grots.

Toughness 4 versus Toughness 2 has obvious advantages. That and Kommandos can achieve the better cover save. It's also worth noting that for a small adjustment in points this squad could have two Big Shootas. Being in the Elite slot makes them ideal, few ork lists actually fill that slot up.

Thoughts-
-Once you are talking about an objective holder that doesn't have Obj Sec I start wondering if Lootas do it better. And they would except that Heavy Support is often a crowded slot.
-10 Ork Boyz are almost the same points value as 5 Kommandos with Two Big Shoota : \ The whole thinking process here is what productivity do two big shootas provide that Ork Boyz wouldn't do at all.

EDIT;
-Flexibility; A squad of Kommandos in reserve could entire on either end of the battlefield and the opponent doesn't neccasarily know what they are doing. In the event that a Trukk boy squad got routed on Turn One the boyz inside could become your objective holders and the Kommandos become your linebreaker unit when they enter turn two.

One thing is for certain, I like Kommando's for Linebreaker

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

I use a min squad of kommandoes from time to time. 5 guyz with 2 rokkits. Clocking at 70 pts. Infiltration allows them to capture a point somewhere in the middle or even get behind enemy lines preferably in 4+ or 3+ cover. G2g as soon as something decides to waste shots on them. And 2 rokkits will annoy your opponent. Even if the chances of doing something significant with just 2 rokkits ain't too good. The meer presence of 2 s8 shots somewhere from behind will be a psychological factor.

And if there's no good way to infiltrate the guyz - outflank them. Or even sit on your own points. However, i prefer big gunz in this role.

Oh, and i don't think it's appropriate to compare them to grots. As for me, i use grots on the front and find them better in this role. But i have enough big gunz to capture a couble of points in my deployment zone.

You know, i really want to try the red skulls formation. I mean bringing in that many commandos from ANY table edge, AND they get to reroll failed cover saves if they don't shoot AND they get shrouded for the turn?

essentially, each one can be a slightly worse lukky stick kommando for one turn if you park them in ruins. I feel like even near barebone kommando squads would be great! give each 5 man group a nob with power klaw, and that's going to be a HUGE threat to their backline.

I don't know why people keep dismissing kommandos as "more expensive slugga boys." They seem amazing to me. Yes, if they take a few casualties, they will PROBABLY break and run, but in formation, or with boss snikrot, they will come in on the most opportune spot there is, and wreck the whole back field. On top of that, they have stealth and move through cover, so they can reliably walk into cover to weather fire (2+ saves if they go to ground, even without formation or snikrot) and then charge out into something later that turn/next turn.

If you want a red skull commando formation, you'll need to invest in comms relay. Target saturation and timing are very important for orkses and you're gona take a huge hit if they're late for a turn. That's gona be a huge part of your army off board.

Don't get me wrong, they're amazing in certain situations. But such tactix is extra risky for orks.

Anywayz, i'd run a configuration of 2 full squads with pk nob and 2 barebones squads of 5 guyz that march ahead. They're gona be a mobile 1-st turn cover cause it's not easy to hide everyone behind terrain for cover + counter-charge bauble wrap.

Kommandos with flamers have worked out fore a couple times. Can be a real nasty first blood of you have the good cover or terrain in advantage. Infiltrate can put you at 12" away to move up an light them up.

In any case, I find they make great distractions that could eithe turn the tide or take the heat off the front
